Confirmed in 14w27b. The name is lost regardless of how it was given the name: whether an existing one was named with a name tag or whether a spawn egg was named with an anvil. In either case, the smaller ones do not retain the name of the larger one (point the the crosshair at them), and the player's death message (which the crosshair confirms) changes from the name of the larger slime to simply "Slime" for the smaller ones. I don't know if this is intended behavior, but the Mooshrooms were allowed to keep their names after being sheared (see the "relates to" issue). |

Well once placed it has its custom name, it wont be THAT hard to rename what it splits up into, and its an intended feature and it IS a bug, i am sure people would like it to be in the game, its minor but its a nice touch, so dont go flamin' me, k? |
