 Description

When hooking up a floating tripwire trap, I noticed the string would not connect to the tripwire hooks when there was a block placed under the west trip wire hook. When the entire system was above air, it works, contrary to minecraftwiki.
I then set up 4 directional trip wire hooks with a block under a north, south, east and west facing hook to test which worked. Enclosed is an image below of a compacted version of my experiments.
When a block was placed under the south or west tripwire hook, the string would not connect and a redstone pulse will not be received.

I have the same problem, just thought to look it up on here I only have to remove a block from one end, Tails I have a block under the tripwire on one end and it works its just the opposite end would not work with a block under it, so i tried a half slab and it works. In other words I have a part grounded and the rest in air. Im running 1.6.2 PC

Resolving as duplicate of MC-570. As stated there by Dinnerbone it has to be either all grounded or all air/transparent blocks, otherwise it won't work right.

I have made a video about this a while ago (in Minecraft 1.3): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGhUQPfGdZA which might show more clearly what the problem it and it also displays the random connecting and disconnecting of wires in certain situations.
And this bug/behavior still affects snapshot 13w03a.

A series showing which hooks need air below to connect to floating string in the latest snapshot.

EDIT 1: The string can also be floating in each example

EDIT 2: These are constant. I did notice in my original design though that at times the lights that "should" be on did turn off for no apparent reason

I used a different design to test solid blocks under the hooks. There is indeed an inconsistency with tripwires connecting and disconnecting. It does not depend on the direction in my setup. Basically at random times hooks will connect and disconnect without me changing anything.
