I was playing on a rollercoaster world. The rollercoaster was leading into a lava pit, but I was saved by a bug. |

You can use Soul Sand to have the cart fall down a cliff. |

Also, the edges of a minecart do not have any collision layers. So even if the rail is cover the whole block, the minecart falls of rail before it can reach a near death. |

I have already found the cause. The minecart track does not cover a whole block. The edge of a rail stops just a pixel away from the edge of a block. The minecart falls off the track, but is stopped by the friction of the block. |
