Linking this issue to MC-630.

I'm disappointed they didn't have a bug tracker before. I've reported this bug several times to the minecraft wiki bugs, which was the main place to report before. It still hasn't been fixed, although it's existed and been reported for over two years.

Yeah, it is the same as MC-630, which has better description.

I am quite dissapointed they haven't fixed it for 1.4.3, there will probably be 1.4.4 though. (Because of the pre1.4.3 bugs)

And btw, it's not just the hotbar. It's any key that is not A to Z or 0 to 9 in the same place as on the american QWERTY keyboard.

It's strange they're focusing so much on in-game bugs, but paying no attention to this huge major bug in the primary interface of the game: keyboard controls.

Yes, it is the same bug.

I think this is the same bug as MC-630, which I described in more detail. The issue seems to be related to the way Minecraft handles keyboard input; it seems to do it by character code, not key code. Results are WTF.

This occur on French keyboard on linux too.
In this case it is needed to do SHIFT-(hotbar key)
For french keyboard I suspect that it is because we need to press shift for accessing numbers for the hotbar, Since on english keyboard, these are in lowercase
