 Description

Since the 1.3 update there has been SMP sound lag. This affects stepping sounds, eating sounds & block placement sounds. When blocks are placed there is a sound lag, by this I mean if a block is placed the sound will not play as but after the block is placed. The sound lag occurs in the same way for stepping and eating. The sound lag has been said to only occur when connecting to far away servers like a server located in another country to which you are connecting from, this is not the case, I know of many people that are still having the sound lag issues when connecting to servers from their own country.

I have seen this problem mentioned numerous times online in forums but have yet to see a mojang employee even acknowledge that the problem exists. The sound lag does get very annoying and I would like to know if it will be fixed anytime in the future. There is currently a mod to fix this problem (https://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1414774-132smp-nosoundlag/) but it would be good to see an official fix released by mojang.

Unresolved... still having huge lag when placing blocks... server is placed in the same city where i am... server 1.7.4, client 1.7.4

I am having ping level at best 3 out of 5 when TAB pressed, strange because i have a quite good cable connection and server too (client and server is not overloaded and is in the same network from the same ISP)...

very very annoying

Cannot reproduce in the latest version of minecraft

As of 1.6.2, block placement sounds still have noticeable lag when connecting to a server with relatively high latency (~100ms+). Delayed sounds are rather confusing for players.

Furthermore, it's inconsistent with block breaking sounds, which are generated client-side rather than server-side.

The fix should be relatively straightforward: generate block placement sounds on client-side like they were before 1.3.

Can we get a confirmation of whether this happens in 13w10a and an update to the affected versions?

Just to clarify, the footstep sound lag was indeed fixed in 1.4.3. The block placement sound lag was not.

Regression because not fixed.

Duplicate of MC-30.

Couple things...

This would be a minor issue as graphic glitches, sound glitches, and such are not high priority. High priority items would be things like MineCraft crash to desktop, freezing on EVERYONE's systems, etc.

Second you probably do not have access to change priority, possibly mods, and definitely Mojang. This is not an completely open JIRA, and currently has a "medium" security set.

Comment by prizna [ 24/Oct/12 ]

The reason the priority is set to minor, is that there was no option (at least I couldn't find one) to set the priority of the bug, if there is please let me know where it is located. Thanks.

I do not see this as a "minor" issue. As minecraft played on multiplayers is BIG. And all server owners will be getting nag about lag, though there aint any. But its just the sound being delayed.
