 Description

I was in single player holding a carrot and a pig was following me. I wanted to take the pig to the nether for a nether farm. I walked through the portal and the pig followed me untill he touched the portal and got transfered to the nether. I walked into the portal again and got tranfered to the nether too. the moment I spawned in the nether portal the pig was standing next to me in the portal. after 1 seccond the pig got transfered back to the overworld. other

What I expected to happen: the moment I spawned in the nether the pig should walk out of the portal.

what actually happened: the moment I spawned in the nether the pig got transfered back to the overworld.

steps to reproduce:
1. have a mob (any) walk into a nether portal.
2. when it has transfered walk into the portal yourself and wait untill you are transfered yourself.
3. the moment you spawn in the other portal the other mob will be tranfered back to the overworld.

Adittional information: this ONLY happens when a mob goes to the nether. not when it goes from the nether to the overworld

no thank you for fixing it!

I identified the problem that reset their cooldown instantly, and it's fixed. Thanks for the help.

no dinnerbone, thats not the problem! your cooldown works just fine when a mob goes from the nether to the overworld. the mob isn't able to travel through portals for 25 secconds.

the problem is that the cooldown doesn't work when mobs are transfered from the overworld to the nether. so it doesn't work the other way around.

you don't need to extend the cooldown. you need to fix the cooldown for mobs that are transfered to the nether.

The cooldown period is 25 seconds. I'll change it to 45.

I just had the same problem trying to get some mooshrooms to go to the Nether (for transporting). After some time and much frustration I threw an ender pearl to the portal just to see what would happen. When I entered the Nether one of the mooshrooms was actually there and out of the portal. Then I got some snow balls and managed to get the rest of the mooshrooms to stay in the nether by throwing some of the snow balls after each mooshroom, so that they would get pushed away from the portal. Or that was my reasoning why it works anyway. Just a tip/workaround until they hopefully fix this issue.

So, basically, Maarten... what you're saying is that this is a bug that needs reporting?

Comment by Maarten Thijs [ 25/Oct/12 ]

okey so the conclusion is that the mojang guys need to take a look at this because basically this feature is not jet finished and ready for the release of today.

Not necessarily true. My portals consistently contains pigmen. I know this because as I portal from overworld nether or vice-versa, I have a second or two of seeing inside their heads, before they portal through. If I'm fast and move out of the portal after transporting, I can see them vanish.

I suspect what's happening is this (only a theory):
I stand in overworld, nether is unloaded. I portal through so nether gets loaded and overworld unloaded. Game realises mobs are standing in portal, and transports them into the unloaded overworld. I then stand back in portal to transport back to overworld whereupon the reverse happens, I see inside heads, then they vanish back to now unloaded nether.

In this situation for me, this happens in BOTH directions.

agreed. and the funny thing is this isn't an issue for mobs traveling from the nether to the overworld

Yeah, the cooldown timer just needs to be increased.
