duplicates MC-11030 No sound after starting the game Resolved
Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed

 Description

After downloading and installing a fresh version of Minecraft 1.4.5 or 1.4.6, no sound happens whatsoever. Pressing F3 + S does not fix the issue.

My sound sliders are all the way up and I am using the default LWJGL and LWJGL Mac native files.

To recreate:

  1. Back up minecraft folder
  2. Delete minecraft folder
  3. Force update to grab all of the latest files
  4. Create a new world (Game mode and world type don't matter)
  5. Walk around, try to play music discs, light TNT, or do anything else that is known to cause a sound event.
  6. Notice that no sound happens.

Resolving sound downloading issues to MC-11030

I just tried this (updated to 1.5) and still get absolutely no sounds. I can play Pandora radio, but when I run Minecraft, I get no sound after completely removing my ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft folder (not just the resources folder, but the whole minecraft configuration folder. Not only do I not get in-game sounds (picking up, attacking cows, etcetera) but I also get no interface sounds anymore (like clicking buttons to start single player or multiplayer.

The resources folder is completely empty, so I tried downloading a resources file form the internets, but I still get no sound..

to be honest, I was playing on a 1.4.6 server and the sound just suddenly went off. I had to actually close down Minecraft and reopen it before I could get it working. Several others had the same problem.
We'd been playing for well over and hour so all sounds should have been loaded etc. One minute they were on, next they were off.

Resolving this ticket since not a bug.
New sounds are downloaded while in game and not while updating the game.

Try making sure your computer volume, AND minecraft volume are up.
