After downloading and installing a fresh version of Minecraft 1.4.5 or 1.4.6, no sound happens whatsoever. Pressing F3 + S does not fix the issue. My sound sliders are all the way up and I am using the default LWJGL and LWJGL Mac native files. To recreate:

I just tried this (updated to 1.5) and still get absolutely no sounds. I can play Pandora radio, but when I run Minecraft, I get no sound after completely removing my ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft folder (not just the resources folder, but the whole minecraft configuration folder. Not only do I not get in-game sounds (picking up, attacking cows, etcetera) but I also get no interface sounds anymore (like clicking buttons to start single player or multiplayer. The resources folder is completely empty, so I tried downloading a resources file form the internets, but I still get no sound.. |

to be honest, I was playing on a 1.4.6 server and the sound just suddenly went off. I had to actually close down Minecraft and reopen it before I could get it working. Several others had the same problem. |

Try making sure your computer volume, AND minecraft volume are up. |
