Enable the touchscreen option, and get a stack of an item in your inventory. When you try to drag the stack the number will go to the upper-right corner of the item as shown in the attached picture. |

This works as intended. Not only the number moves at the top of the item, but the item itself moves slightly above the cursor, allowing good visibility. |

In that case the finger would still partially cover the number more or less depending on the placement of the finger. |
