 Description

I found this out when I was playing in SSP. I had a full inventory from mining and had 4 stacked empty buckets, when I tried to get some lava from a underground lava lake I got the lava bucket but it fell out of my inventory and into the lava lake I now had 3 stacked empty buckets and a lava bucket that was now in the lava...
You can reproduce this bug by: having a full inventory and having some stacked empty buckets and then trying to get a bucket of lava.
I think this happens because your inventory is full so it has no where else to go.

Well then, I stand corrected and I was stupid to assume that without doing a test. I simply thought I had encountered a full inventory while picking up water before.

I still think it's absolutely ridiculous to just dump items from a player's inventory without warning or really permission. Water isn't such a big deal, but lava? Not only can you easily waste iron by getting it dumped into the lava in front of you, but you can also easily waste valuable lava source blocks (for example if you found a convenient lava lake, you don't have a nether portal, and you're saving the lava or obsidian for non-Nether projects.)

Why not let the player manage his own inventory? "Oh, I can't pick up this water/lava, I better burn/drop this useless seed I still have from an hour ago".

I know, I'll shut up now, don't point me to reddit for suggestions. Some things in Minecraft just confuse the hell out of me.

@Jonathan
I am unable to reproduce the behaviour you describe in 1.7.10. In every version tested, the buckets drop when filled.

How in the world is this WAI? Clearly it's not because in 1.7.10, a full inventory just causes you to be unable to grab new water/lava. In 14w33c it is back to this ridiculous behavior.

Ok thanks

In that case it would be a feature request, and should be posted on the MC forums here.

I don't really know what I wanted to happen, but it is annoying. Maybe if it did not allow you to get the lava bucket until you had a free space in your inventory.

This is not a bug.

I am fairly certain this is intended, but out of curiosity, what were you expecting to happen instead?
