| Description |
|
I was trying to test out the new beacon in my nether fortress and i encountered some issues. due to the way the nether differed from the over world and sky lands the beacon needs a different rule set for this dimension |

Confirmed. Netherrack can generate between bedrock blocks (Just go in creative and wreck the roof) and thus prevent beacons from working everywhere. |

I ran into this problem in 1.8.2-pre6. I drilled up to bedrock in a 2x2 shaft. Three of the four beacons activated. The fourth would not let me select an ability. When I went into creative mode and knocked out the bedrock above the broken beacon, there was a piece of netherrack about the bedrock. After I knocked away the concealed netherrack, the beacon immediately lit up. The offending piece of netherrack was completely concealed by bedrock so there was no way to fix this in survival mode. |

Thank you Grum ! I still hope this will make it to the 1.8.2 rather than 1.8.3 |

They now pretend bedrock is air, So just make sure only bedrock is above it! |

Since 14w32b, beacons now consistently don't work in the Nether unless the bedrock ceiling is broken. The remaining issues being mentioned here seem to be |

Not resolved in 1.8.1. |

Still broken in the last pre-release 1.8.1 Pre-4. I filled a 60x60 zone with iron block with beacons on top using the /fill command in a newly generated world, and not a single one was working until I smashed everyblock above INCLUDING bedrock. |

I say remove the line of sight requirement all together it would be much easier to let a beacon work anywhere with no restrictions. as for the beam of light add in some code to change the length of the beam and allow the beam to always render and just stop when it hits a block rather than not render at all. i am kinda frustrated and frankly sickened that this issue has survived so many updates without a resolution. and competent modder could probably fix this within a few days |

Inconsistencies still evident in 14w21b. |

Still a concern in 14w06b. And yes, as pooshla stated, the inconsistency is also chunk related, in addition to the other problems. And I've also seen working chunk suddenly not working. Beacons don't need 14 blocks of air above them, nor to be less than 14 meters under the celling. |

|
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w05b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. |

this is a bad bug report because neither of those two things are actual problems. and this report blocks me from posting my actual bug report. as you can see in the image i attached, the beacons seem to not work based on chunks and change from working to broken on chunk boundaries. i dont know what is causing this, or how exactly to reproduced it, but someone has to have had this problem and the chunk border thing must provide some clue to the cause. |

the issue of beacons working in the nether seems to be chunk related as you can see by this image. |

Affects 1.6.1 , 1.6.2 |

I was able to reproduce the problem in creative mode when building a beacon under a block of nether quartz. Removing the quartz block fixed the beacon. |

"2. Beacon beam always requires a shaft to bedrock to show up." I can't reproduce it. Beam won't show up. Beacons' behavior is totally unpredictable in the Nether. |

It says on the minecraft wiki that "Beacons do infact work in the nether aslong as all blocks above it are world genurated not player/piston/enderman or any other way" So the belife of the spike to bedrock conjoins with this theroy since bedrock cant be player(ect) made! |

I can confirm it works inconsistently, but I see the following: |

@ FireHunterX: I made a lot of testing in creative. I did not find when and how beacons work or won't work but: In all tests there was a 14 block clearance above the beacon. |

|
Works within 14 blocks of the nether ceiling, provided it's clear to the bedrock, and seems to only work in certain places. |

This is bordering between bug and feature request. Sure, the intended feature is to have the beacon cast a light beam if there's a pyramid under is, but what use would this have in the Nether, when visibility is extremely lower than the overworld? |

Voted. "2: the beacon will never emit light beams in the nether." <- This is not a bug though. Also what you wrote Arthur is not true. There is no need for direct view of the ceiling bedrock for beacon to function. It only needs 14 blocks of air above it. Beacon has inconsistent behaviour in the nether. Particularly in fortresses or around them but not only. It's just more rare outside fortresses. The problem is that powers are not selectable as if there are no iron/gold/diamond/emerald blocks placed below it. It is not very difficult to reproduce and confirm. |

It does have that different rule, a beacon in overworld will only activate when it has air blocks all the way up to max height, in the Nether, it has to have direct view of the bedrock that is on top of the Nether. |
