 Description

Wood placed inside a 1X1 hole burns way faster when placed vertically than when placed horizontally.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Make an axe.
  • Cut a tree and gather the wood.
  • Make a flint and steel.
  • Dig a 1X1 hole in the ground and place the wood horizontally.
  • Light the wood using the flint and steel.
  • Redo step 4 and 5 but this time place the wood vertically.

Result of the issue:

  • The horizontally placed wood burns faster.

Expected behavior:

  • It should take the same time to burn horizontally placed wood tha vertically placed wood.

Things to note:

  • The issue occurs only when the wood is placed on a 1X1 hole and the exposed part is lit.
  • The issue occurs with all wood types.
  • The issue was done on SMP.

The fire tick is very random, so it may be a coincidence that the side logs burn quicker, I don't even see that possible without being intentionally added as the side-log is the same class as a regular log.

My point exactly. When comparing different results, its best to use as many samples as possible. You came up with a good report; it just needed further testing. If the issue persists or you find a different pattern, post a comment and I may re-open it.

Attaching screenshots of what I did.

Did you place them on a 1X1 hole? It is required for the issue to occurs.
Else they do burn in the same amount of time.

Edit: Wait, I tried burning several of them as you did, and it did burn correctly. It seems that it never takes the same amounts of time to burn.

I placed several sets of vertaical and horizontal logs, and lit each set together. They on average burnt at the same rate for me.

Strange, it works 100% of the times for me, I added screenshots maybe it will help.

strange because it worked for me.

Unable to reproduce. After performing several tests, and averaging them out, they both seem to take about the same amount of time.

Just tested it and I can confirm. The horizontally placed wood took about 2 to 3 minutes and the vertically placed wood took less than one minute.
