 Description

If you (or any other entity) are on fire and stand in a cauldron with water in it, the fire will not go out. Also when this is fixed, AI should count cauldrons as a water source when trying to avoid burning.

@Grum:
Btw., what about adding a fizz sound if a burning entity enters water? Would be the perfect time to do this

Comment by [Mojang] Grum (Erik Broes) [ 21/Oct/13 ]

Whoo implemented =)

But it only works 3 times, as it uses up the water

Comment by Katherine Theresa Jagiella [ 03/Apr/13 ]

I thought Mojang decided not to do this. If I remember correctly, they were originally going to do this, but decided not to. I'm probably wrong, however.

Comment by Gabriel Salla [ 02/Feb/13 ]

Well, I'm pretty sure they have more important things that really need to be fixed

Comment by Gabriel Salla [ 02/Feb/13 ]

Sphax: The same for the cauldron... If cauldrons should vanish fire (I think it's totally pointless), lava bucket should burn because when you throw a bucket at lava it burns!
And BTW, why you want the cauldron vanishing entities on fire? As I said, it's pointless...

Gabriel: Minecraft has some illogical features by gamedesign...

Comment by Gabriel Salla [ 31/Jan/13 ]

Minecraft have some "Functional bugs" (according to you) for a long time, floating blocks, animals without grender but still breeding, you can get lava with a bucket (and hold it in your hand!), infinite water, trees grow instantly. And you say that the water in the cauldron not vanishing fire should be fixed because it's water inside.

Comment by Gabriel Salla [ 31/Jan/13 ]

So you want the lava bucket removed from the game?

Comment by Sphax [ 31/Jan/13 ]

If a new player looks at a cauldron, he can see water in it. It's not that important to know that what he see is not technically a water block... What is important is that the water he looks at doesn't extinguishes fire... That's an inconsistent behavior which can be called a "functional bug".

Functional bug = A feature which works well technically but has an inconsistent behavior vs other features (like a furnace which would not be able to use charcoal when he can use coal as fuel)

Technical bug = A feature which doesn't work well technically (like a memory leak or a missing polygon in a 3D model)

This report IS a functional bug but is not a technical bug. Then it's up to Mojang team to decide on what they do with it.

Comment by Gabriel Salla [ 31/Jan/13 ]

It's not a bug if it's not programed to do it, it's a sugestion.
The same way that there's water on a water bucket and it burns. The same way that there's lava inside the bucket and it don't burn naturally but burns if thrown in lava.

Comment by Sphax [ 31/Jan/13 ]

Please, stop speaking about how the game is made technically...

Ask this questions to you:
What is in the cauldron? Water
What water does on entities on fire? It extinguishes it
What water filled cauldrons do on entities on fire? Nothing = This is a functional bug (but not a technical bug)

Comment by FireHunterX [ 02/Jan/13 ]

There is no "real" water in the cauldron, it is simply showing that there is still water stored in it. You cannot put yourself out with water that isn't there.
If you change the cauldron's texture so that it is transparent, you will see that the water you see in it is just a flat square textured to look like water.

Reopened.

Comment by Stephen [ 27/Nov/12 ]

Yes, that's why the glitch happens. Cauldrons are a special case that Mojang forgot to account for.

Comment by Anon Ymus [ 27/Nov/12 ]

Cauldrons do not contain a water block (source or flowing).

Comment by Stephen [ 27/Nov/12 ]

So then this is a bug, standing in water normally puts out fire and this is not consistent with that behavior.

Comment by Kumasasa [ 26/Nov/12 ]

Here ya go: Bug: A mistake in a software project. Any observed reproducible behavior not consistent with the behavior intended by the developers may be classified as a bug.

Comment by Stephen [ 26/Nov/12 ]

Is there a guideline for what is and isn't considered a suggestion? I consider water not putting out fire to be a bug.
