 Description

Good evening,

Excuse me for my poor english.

I experienced an issue with the activation of vertical pistons.

The first screen shows us the configuration: 2 piston taking alimentation from stone block near them, and redstone torch to tell us if the stone is alimented.

The second screen shows us what happens if we alimente the bottom piston only.

The third screen shows us what happens if we alimente the top piston only.

At the fourth screen we alimente both pistons, every thing works well.

At the fifth screen, we cancel the bottom piston's alimentation: here's the problem.
The bottom piston is still activated while the bottom redstone torch shows that the stone is not powered: the piston should be deactivated.

The screen six just shows us that the redstone torchs don't change anything.

The screen seven shows that system come back to normal if we take away the power.

And the last screen shows the system from his back.

I had this bug on online server and offline on private world on the last version, and both creative and survival.
This is really sad, because we can't deal with the powering of vertical stack of pistons.

exemple of application: double vertical piston system

Thanks for reading me, the redstone mechanics is one part of minecraft that I really love.

I wish you a good week.

Actually, you could use tripwire hooks (with different lengths) and more a entity in it, not compact, but it is possible.

"Aren't planning" isn't the same thing as "never", nor does it mean that they can't devise a solution to this issue.

PC crafters can rest easy, too: we aren’t planning to remove quasi-connectivity from that version. But stay tuned for other exciting developments there, too!

Welp, I suppose that's the final nail in the coffin for people wanting to get it fixed. This report can finally be "resolved as Won't Fix".

I tested in 1.8.
There's no such ghost behavior now. But it's still impossible to activate separately pistons stacked vertically.
And honestly it is a reason I stopped minecraft: you create an object called piston, opening a new world of possibilities. In fact no the possibilities are really limited and the fixes on this was more like "featuring the bug more than fixing it", this is dirty work.

You truly can't do everything you want, there isn't even a simple featured way to extend the size of the pistons, there isn't even the feature of catapulting sand and player when turned to the top. Pistons are a shame, if I wonder what was in the head of the devs when they implemented the piston mod i think about this "meh you want it, get it, happy now?".

This is sad.

It basically means that so long as MC-108 is intended and will not change in behaviour, this report remains valid and unfixable.

What is "is blocked by" mean?
Isnt this basicly a duplicate?

Comment by Ijatsu Castaka [ 21/Nov/12 ]

Thanks for your answers.

CubeTheThird: it's the most naïve way to power pistons, the problem is that it powers both top and bottom pistons, i use a "proxy" stone block to power only one piston.

Tails: It works only if we works we 2 pistons, in my case it's not possible because i have a big vertical stack of pistons and i need to control each separatly.

I believe it's a bug because it works separatly, but when the top one is activated, if you activate the bottom one he's stuck in this position, you can barrely remove everything else except the bottom piston, he will keep being stuck.

This is kind of related to the piston quasi connectivity. To be able to control 2 pistons above each other without interference use the setup I provided in the screenshot.
Edit: Using the "feature" explained here: MC-3592

I believe this is intended behaviour, and I am posting a screenshot for a possible solution/alternative. Does this solve your problem?
