The player.dat file is still there. It has happened to both me and another person on a private server. |

Are you changing the game from 1.7.10 to 1.8? If so it would be from that, if normal chests are fine I am no help. |

Inventory and Ender Chest contents are stored based on the player's name. If your name changed for any reason, including connecting to the server without logging in to minecraft, you won't be able to access the proper inventory. |
