Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.8.1 Prerelease 3 / Launcher version 1.5.3 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. |

It was in vanilla 1.6.2 in SMP when I was encountering this. |

Just encountered this. Really really obnoxious, to say the least. |

I was working on a place in the nether, and a ghast spawned partially clipped into the nearby nether fortress, and started shooting at me through the floor. Even when I added a layer of obsidian blocks under the entire place, the ghast's fireballs still managed to get through the floor and sometimes inflict damage. Attached are a couple pictures of the issue, one of a fireball partially through the floor, and the other a tick of damage that wasn't able to make it through my armor, but is partially covered by all the notifications of me taking screenshots. So, yes, this bug is still present and irritating. |

I have a nether hub that is at the ceiling of the nether. Even though there are a bunch of layers of netherack below the nether hub, ghasts will shoot at me through a bunch of blocks. I can't go to the nether if this bug doesn't get fixed. |

Ghasts can spawn in small holes very easily, I have noticed. It is because the larger part of the Ghast is the VISUAL entity, the actual collision box is considerably smaller. |

Is this ever going to get fixed? Such a longstanding problem and nothing has been done about it. |

This is still happening in Snapshot 13w10a |

From what I can tell, this happens when the ghast is a bit too low in the 5x5 area. This can easily be replicated by using a spawn egg on the bottom center block of the spawn box. In my test I used a 7x7 box (5x5 air inside) suspended in the air and you can tell the tentacles are tangling quite a bit out the bottom when it's in the right position. This also only seems to happen in the North-West direction and is very predictable. The actual problem seems to be happening in the ray tracing method in World with a signature (Vec3, Vec3, bool, bool). Edit: To be more exact, the reason it is happening is because ghast is attempting to check if it can "see" the player. Since the ray tracing is not detecting blocks in the path, it thinks it has line of sight. |

I can also confirm this problem. Makes AFKing in nether nearly impossible. Ghast fireballs can come through the cobble, inflicting small amounts of damage and even setting the ground on fire. No openings are available and I am standing in a cobble box. This is an old issue, and can be found listed from 2011 on the Minecraft Wiki talk pages on Ghasts. Please resolve it, its the only bug that messes with my gameplay right now. |

Can confirm this. In my case I was busy halfslabbing a 200x200 section in the nether and a ghast starting blasting a tunnel to me as it had also spawned in a very small space allowing it to see me. |
