1.13 Pre 5: Returning to a tiny island I had previously placed torches on and there's an area that shows a light level of 0 when a torch is very near (just across a chunk border). There's anther torch a few blocks farther away one level lower than the 0 light surface that's in the same chunk and it's not producing light in the area

this has been a problem since 1.9 naturally generated light sources don't light up, so while you may have lava or torches or what not they will produce zero light unless you set a down a light source of your own. even placing torches sometimes has a similar effect where it does not produce the correct amount of light. cases in point https://postimg.org/gallery/2awqsmxh2/ I am kind of surprised that this bug has lasted this long without being noticed. |

Happens in 16w03a. One way to reproduce is to put daylight sensors on top of redstone lamps set to turn on at night out of viewing distance. Then check during the night. Its not a visual glitch as mobs will spawn next to the light sources. In the screen shot the slabs are on the East/West sides. |

Still affects 1.8.1. Unlike in 1.7/earlier versions, right clicking on them no longer fixes the issue. |

I think this is the correct issue for this (originally posted this message in https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-1018), I'm noticing it on a massive tower I've built with lots of jack-o-lanterns (Mac version 1.6.2). At night the whole tower should be lit, but there are lots of un-lit spots even though most of the blocks are light emitting ones! Strangely enough, most of the lanterns below about 80 blocks high are lit but most above that exhibit strange patterns of darkness, but it only seems to affect 2 sides, whereas the other 2 sides light up normally. The lantern blocks are only bright on the eyes and mouth and don't light the area around them... seeing as most of this is far too high to reach I can't get them to ever update, so my tower looks stupid all the time at night!) This is really annoying considering the tower took me a good 3 months to build! I've posted a screenshot of the tower at night. |

I saw this once, with lava in the Overworld. Only the sides of the blocks next to it (which were touching the lava) were lit correctly. I believe Jeb fixed this today (for future version 1.7, I would assume); look at his twitter. |

Still occurs in 1.4.7 and not JUST in naturally generated sources. I leveled a mountain top and placed my glowstone in the ground every 7 blocks, and whole large sections of it have light level 0 when I log in or go away from them for a little while. After getting close for 2 seconds of so they light up, but not usually before something spawned in. Can post some screens of it if needed. PS. Vanilla minecraft. |

Confirmed in 12w50b and included all other naturally generated light sources. |

I have seen this effect. The game engine does not apply the dynamic lighting to glowstone when the chunk is generated. Usually happens if I am generating new chunks quickly by flying or something. A block update does fix this 100% of the time by triggering the dynamic lighting to refresh. |
