 Description

As first you must have at least 4 block tall. Then place torch on the third block and place sand or gravel up. Destroy the block above torch, then sand or gravel will fall down "pass" torch.

Sand and gravel will break if they try to land in any non-solid block. In this case, since there is an air block beneath it, it doesn't try to land there, and just falls through. It has always worked this way.

@Torabi: This seems only to happen when there is a block right beneath the torch

Didn't sand falling on a torch previously cause the sand to turn into an item? I've read about people using that as a fast way to harvest sand and gravel.

Fora simple player who doesn't know about entities and so on, the weird thing is that regular sand sits on torches but falling sand doesn't. So this behaves somewhat inconsistent.

Confirmed not sure if intentional, i think it is

Comment by Tails [ 17/Nov/12 ]

Falling blocks are entities, which pass through non-solid blocks like mobs and players. Not a bug.
