In both single-player and multi-player, creative mode and survival mode, Iron golems will spawn to protect villagers. However, people may make square boxes with water draining to the center, and put containers with villagers on each side to 'spawn' iron golems and have them fall like with a normal grinder. This is a problem with multi-player servers as they are able to produce a doublechest of iron ingots in just a few hours - and this is a form of exploiting (producing an infinite amount of iron ingots, just like how sand/gravel factories made infinite sand/gravel). My suggestion: either remove them from dropping anything like with the snow golems ... or have them just drop roses since they do that anyways. Please consider this - ekl |

@eklektoi , 1.8 does remove AFK iron golem farming by making iron a player kill only drop. However the golems can simply be held in a chamber where the player drops tnt on them, as tnt counts as a player kill. This makes it harder but not impossible. |

@eklektoi : if this is a bug in your opinion, have you also opened tickets for overworld mob farms, gold farms, endermen farms, squid farms, spawner-based farms ? |

Is the resolution able to be changed now that 1.8 is basically fixing the iron ingot-farming issue? |

It has been a few months, but this is still able to occur - I'd like to do a post update real quick: With 1.5 update there are now hoppers ... The iron golem's dropping iron ingots endlessly and with the hoppers, can fill up chests automatically with ingots unless if the farm's are destroyed. My suggestion, like with the last one - Just like how a snow golem is crafted using snow blocks and a pumpkin and doesn't drop the same items used to craft it with, the iron golems could do the same, drop a generic item like the roses only. |

I'll reword it then - we must be viewing the perspective of 'duplication' differently ... I'm not meaning it's taking iron ingots and actually duplicating them; I'm saying Iron Golems can be falsely spawned outside of a village and repeatedly killed in vast numbers to obtain a large quantity (about a Double-chest an hour max by just standing still) of iron ingots. Maybe you say 'This' works as intended - but it 'Is' still considered an exploit - for people can, in a sense, cheat to obtain iron ingots quickly - instead of just mining for them as originally intended. (Side note: If people want that many iron ingots by cheating - they might as well use creative mode to give themselves the ingots.) |

This is not a duplication glitch; you are not making multiple iron ingots from a single ingot, you're getting them as mob drops, as designed. This is a game balance issue, not a bug or exploit, and as such it's out of scope for this issue tracker. |

@Kumasasa - That is true, it 'IS' working, however, as I may recall Iron golem's original feature was to spawn in a village and protect the villagers from humans and mobs.
IMO I think it should be removed as it's taking away from the spirit of game play, much like the sand-generator, gravel-generator, and duplicators did - I believe this is similar, and should be considered in a non-biased, yet 'what will the outcome be?' stance. Thanks for reading my comment - ekl |

IMO is this working as intended. That's a normal item farm. |
