Still having the same issue in 1.4.7.
I can log to the server. the map is loaded fine. i can walk, break blocks and get them in my inventory.. a few minutes /seconds and then the error is raised
INTERNAL EXCEPTION: JAVA.NET.SOCKETEXCEPTION: SOFTWARE CAUSED CONNECTION ABORT: RECV FAILED

Comment by Yaroslav Sterkhov [ 09/Jan/13 ]

Can confirm this for 1.4.7, but I also add, that it is location related... moving (or being teleported) to relatively unused loaction of map fixes it.
I'm working on definition of "used" atm, so far it meaning "where I or someone else built house\base\mine\farm". I suppose avoiding to load some chunks on login prevents it from happenijng, because approximate distance (minimum) I had to fly away was about ten chunks.. that is radiuse of which server loads chunks for player, as far as I know.
So it fixed just like chat bug was fixed, we still need to use /me to be able chat without risk of disconnect on 1.4.7.

Fixed.
See comment in MC-2855

I also have this problem with 1.3.2.

Comment by Rat_Cat12 [ 04/Dec/12 ]

This is all the client logs when I get this message:
Connecting to 192.168.0.3, 25565
The server just logs:
<player> [/<IP address>] lost connection

When I get this error it happens on all servers and other people get it at the same time making me think that it might be something to do with the Mojang servers. At the time of posting the Mojang servers were having issues around 20 minutes ago.

Edit:I can confirm that it is the Mojang servers; I can log into my server if it has online mode off, but not if it has online mode on.

Im also getting this on Bukkit/Minecraft servers, the only way I have found is loading up Minecraft then waiting like 5 mins then join a server. And it works, this has happened for me and my server members since updating to 1.4.2 :/

That happens as well, but with the mods marking #MC-2901 as duplicate of #MC-2879 I wanted to make sure that the full story was mentioned here.

This is different. MC-2901 is about being kicked. This is about being unable to join a server.

Comment by Andrew Erickson [ 14/Nov/12 ]

Similar error reported on #MC-2901, but some details not reported on this thread.

Error/disconnect screen shows following: INTERNAL EXCEPTION: JAVA.NET.SOCKETEXCEPTION: SOFTWARE CAUSED CONNECTION ABORT: RECV FAILED

Previous post by myself:
"I'm having the same problem. No crash report generates. It only happens when joining servers, and has started happening suddenly. Like Friday for me. You'll join, have time to take a step, then receive that error on a "Connection Lost" type screen.

Also, when you go back to check the server, it shows as "unavailable" for a while. After refreshing it's back with the 4-5 bar signal you started with. I have checked with my friend who is operating a dedicated server and everything is running good on his end.

We're not the only people with this problem either, and it isn't an internet connection problem either. I still have steady signal as does my server operator.

This is currently making the game unplayable in multilayer. You can still play single player just fine."

And...
"From the look of it, the problem is deeper than simply a login error. I can get on sometimes, play for a few minutes, then get kicked. Log back on, the game loads, then get kicked again. Log on again, loads again. Each time it displays the error noted above. The login error only happens now and again."

I'm running Windows Vista, and current Java. have tried reloading Minecraft and Java with no luck. Have created Firewall and Anti-virus exceptions as well but still the problem persists.

Was able to play for 2hrs last night before the errors began again, but Monday and Tuesday I was able to spend a max of 5minuts at any one tiem, so it isn't a static issue.

I can confirm this with 1.4.2. I can also confirm the "50%". Happens since a few days. It happens with several servers so I do not think this is a server issue. I'm also sure it is not a problem with my internet connection. Very strange: If this error happens on the first try it is persistent. No matter how often I try to login I always get the same error. I have to restart Minecraft for the next try.

Just adding screenshot to show Communication error on server list when attempting to reconnect after receiving "Failed to login: Error"

Comment by Chalmes (Jon) [ 12/Nov/12 ]

Alternatively, low ping of 37ms exhibits the same behaviour.

Comment by Kumasasa [ 12/Nov/12 ]

Confirmed with vanilla client & server.
High ping of ~800 ms

Comment by Yan Bedard [ 12/Nov/12 ]

I also confirm this with a tekkit client. Its annoying to get that error on your own server. >.<

Comment by Grant Schaaf [ 12/Nov/12 ]

Yes I am using Minecraft 1.4.2

Comment by Chalmes (Jon) [ 12/Nov/12 ]

Can I just ask that you confirm you are running 1.4.2 as you had tagged the bug and not 1.4.4 which I tagged it with?

Comment by Chalmes (Jon) [ 12/Nov/12 ]

Marking as confirmed, though not sure if this is a bug related to the client, server, or even login servers.
