 Description

When using the command block to set your spawn or sleeping in a bed, when you die, you will spawn at the original spawn, and in the chat it will say: "Your bed was missing or obstructed".

11.11.12: I tried the same on some of my other worlds, and I had no problems.
The map was created before 1.4, in 1.3. Also, when I tried it on the surface (the problem is in a cave), it worked out fine...

11.15.12: Updated to 1.4.4 today, still not working...

11.22.12 Tried in 1.4.5 today, had the same problem... I wonder if it has to do with the location of it, i'll try moving my dungeon (thats where the commandblock is) further down or away from the previous location.

As an admin of a 1.7.8 vanilla smp server, I can confirm that beds do irregularly obstruct players in this version. Even with many players saved at the same bed, some will get returned to the world spawn while others will not. We've had to make everyone put in the precaution of having solid blocks on each side of bed, including corners, and 2-high column of air above each of these. 3-high if there still seems to be issues.

The last time I eye-witnessed this glitch was 2 days ago, and the only possible "obstruction" was that there were torches in the corners by the head of the bed, on I believe it was ground level. This only obstructed one player, and the rest respawned at this bed fine.

confirmed 1.7.8

Since no more reports > 1.5.0 , assuming fixed in 1.5.2

@Dustin Held: Your issue is the related one: MC-141.

Comment by Dustin Held [ 18/Aug/13 ]

Continued testing. Not a bug. There was a sign in the spawn block, obstructing spawning. Please close issue.

@Dustin Held: Can you please provide steps to reproduce with screenshots?

MOD PLEASE UPDATE STILL AN ISSUE IN 1.6.2

Comment by Clarence Mesina [ 31/May/13 ]

I have been testing this and you spawn in or near the spawn chunk.

If trying to spawn on to pressure plate (or any other transperent block), move y up by one to fix

Comment by Peter Dorsaneo [ 10/Mar/13 ]

Confirmed in 1.5 pre-replease.

Yes, in 13w07a /spawnpoint seems to work, but the bed doesn't.

Comment by Daniel [ 23/Feb/13 ]

Confirmed for 13w07a

Comment by Jed Harvey [ 19/Feb/13 ]

for now I at least will be content with fixing it with /spawnpoint while waiting for a fix

Compasses have always pointed to 0,0. Have you tried "/spawnpoint @a"?

Compasses don't point to 0, 0 they point to your original spawn point, which is the first found location that matches spawn conditions around 0, 0 and it is stored as a general spawn point in case of something like the bed being obstructed.

Comment by fuj1n (Arthur Uzulin) [ 24/Jan/13 ]

Do you have any block at all obstructing your spawn point (even pressure plates obstruct it), and also, the /spawnpoint <player> in the command block sets your spawn to the location you are standing on unless you specify coordinates.

Comment by chad bowlow [ 15/Jan/13 ]

I am just reiterating that /spawnpoint command using command blocks still isn't working correctly. I am getting "Your bed is missing or obstructed" error everytime I try and respawn after using a command block to set my spawnpoint.

Comment by Joram V. [ 14/Jan/13 ]

the /spawnpoint dusn't work for me either but strangly it also dusn't work with buttons only when i go on creative and look at code inside klick ok and then it works for everything... maby this helps

Comment by Vinicius Diogo Melo [ 21/Nov/12 ]

Weird, in my old single players maps, and the servers i joined in that time, i always used the compass to guide me back to my house when i had a bed, maybe the compass pointing to the player spawnpoint was a bug them. But imo, it's useless if it point to the world spawnpoint.

Comment by GrygrFlzr [ 21/Nov/12 ]

/spawnpoint only does what a bed does - sets the player spawnpoint - without the need of a bed. It doesn't change the world spawnpoint, which is what the compass is pointing to. All the information I dug up so far says that this has been how it does it since it's creation in Alpha, so this behavior is not a bug.

Comment by Vinicius Diogo Melo [ 21/Nov/12 ]

I remember when i played in the earlier versions of Minecraft, the compass always pointed to my respawnpoint, and it pointed to my bed when i sleep on it, i remember because i used it a lot to find the way back to my house when mining/exploring, and i never built a house near the spawnpoint. And when using the /spawnpoint or /spawnpoint <playername> the compass still pointing to the original spawn point.

Comment by Anon Ymus [ 21/Nov/12 ]

Compasses have always pointed to the spawnpoint. Have you tried "/spawnpoint @a"?

Comment by GrygrFlzr [ 21/Nov/12 ]

"Sleeping in a bed will change your respawn point, but will not change the original spawn point and the location the compass points towards." -Minecraft Wiki
The compass pointing to the original spawnpoint is not a bug.

Comment by Tom Mate [ 21/Nov/12 ]

I can confirm this as well. The compas also points to the original spawnpoint, when I created the map.

Comment by Vinicius Diogo Melo [ 20/Nov/12 ]

I updated to 1.4.5 and now i spawn on my bed, the weird part is that not listed as fixed. But the compass still pointing to the original spawnpoint.

Comment by Vinicius Diogo Melo [ 18/Nov/12 ]

I'm in the version 1.4.4 and when i sleep in the bed my spawn point still the original, i don't spawn in the bed when i die, also sometimes got the error that the bed is obstructed when its not.

Comment by Vegard Namtvedt [ 15/Nov/12 ]

This is not fixed yet... (1.4.4)

Comment by Brandon Bourgeois [ 12/Nov/12 ]

I hope so.

Comment by Vegard Namtvedt [ 11/Nov/12 ]

Martin: It is a command block set off by a button, the command is: "/spawnpoint @p".
There is nothing where the spawn is set, it was on a stone brick-floor.

Brandon: Will it be fixed in 1.4.3?

Comment by Brandon Bourgeois [ 11/Nov/12 ]

Possibly related to MC-2385.

Comment by GrygrFlzr [ 10/Nov/12 ]

Possibly a duplicate of MC-141, or at least related. Did you check for pressure plates/tripwires around the position you set the spawn?
