although not a bug, i consider a quirk. i think it is a MISSING feature, as it doesn't make sense that i just lit myself on fire and do not emit any light.

Yes. Only blocks and the sun can give off light.

You are right, this would be very nice. But currently this works as intended. There is no dynamic lighting in Minecraft. This is not a bug.
