 Description

I kept generating lots of new worlds with hopes to get a seed that would show off all the new 1.4.2 stuff easily. After a while it just kept generating worlds that I had already created and then deleted...

For example; On a previous world I made a boat and started going across the ocean to get to a little island that I spotted... about 15 worlds later it generated the same world and spawned me right next to my boat. I don't understand how that is possible if the world was supposed completely gone from my computer.

Is this still a concern on Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre-Release? If so, please update the affected versions.

The World Does Get Completely Deleted, But Is Kept In Memory, Restart Minecraft Every Time You Generate A New World With The Same Name?

Comment by Daedalus Young [ 05/Nov/12 ]

The issue here is that worlds do not get completely deleted when attempted to delete from within Minecraft. Then when a new world is created with the same name as the one supposedly deleted, features of the old world will show up.

A workaround is to delete worlds not from within Minecraft, but in the OS, like in Finder on Mac. Preferably though, when one clicks the Delete World button, the entire world's folder gets deleted, with all its contents. At this moment I see no reason why Minecraft should not do this.
