 Description

The input slots (fuel, ingredient) of a brewing stands behave unlike all other slots, in the following ways:

  • Right-clicking on a stack of items generally splits it in half; but on the input slots of brewing stands, it picks up the entire stack instead. The client still assumes only half a stack was picked up.
  • If I have some of an item in the stand and some in my inventory, shift-clicking the stack in my inventory does not add it to ingredient slot in the brewing stand

Using the new double-click to pick up a stack inventory feature can have some unexpected results. To reproduce:
1. Put a stack of nether wart in the input of a brewing stand.
2. Have a single nether wart in your inventory.
3. Double click the single nether wart. Notice you now have 64 nether wart, even though 65 total have dissapeared from the stand and your inventory.

Neither of these behaviors occur with other specialized input slots, such as a furnace's fuel slot.

Also note other related inventory management issues relating to brewing stands listed in the "relates to" links below.

Created MC-107378 for that.

Still can't shift-click if the top slot isn't empty through 16w38a.

Confirmed for 15w43c, does weird stuff when using right-click the second time.

Still an issue in 1.8.4

Confirmed (and worsened) in 1.8: Right-clicking a stack still takes the whole thing, but causes a client/server desync, the client thinks it took half a stack, the server knows the whole stack is with the cursor.

confirmed in 14w32d

Comment by Kevin Reid [ 22/Jan/14 ]

In 1.7.4 (current release), the behavior is as described in the original report.

Comment by Kevin Reid [ 22/Jan/14 ]

Confirmed in 14w03b.

However, the misbehavior has changed slightly: right-clicking on a stack in the stand will appear to split the stack and pick up half, and allow you to place it in your inventory, but on exiting and returning to the brewing stand GUI you will see the entire stack moved instead. Looks like client/server desync and the server implementing the buggy behavior.

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w03b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Comment by Mark Kozlov [ 11/Nov/13 ]

Confirmed in 1.7.2.

Comment by Kevin Reid [ 10/Jul/13 ]

Confirmed in 1.6.2. Removed meta-discussion from description.

Comment by Ben W [ 01/May/13 ]

Can confirm in 1.5.1. Was just about to submit a duplicate of this, good thing I remembered to search at the last minute.

Comment by Tails [ 26/Dec/12 ]

Confirmed in 1.4.6.

Splitting Bug Confirmed. Shift Clicking Not Adding To Existing Stacks But Instead Creating New Stacks Could Just Be A Way Mojang Implemented Protection For Illicitly Stacking Potions.

Comment by Sid Ben [ 03/Nov/12 ]

I can confirm this. If you have at least 1 nether wart on the top slot of the brewing stand, you can't shit-click more nether wart. If the top slot is empty, shift-click works normally.
