Confirmed in 1.21.4 prerelease 2 |
| Comment by [Helper] Jack McKalling [ 16/Sep/24 ] |
|
@Chilenderino no, as it's fixed already. Technically we would need a new resolution specifically for "fixed in experiment", but that doesn't exist. |
| Comment by Chilenderino [ 16/Sep/24 ] |
|
Shouldn't be mark as "In progress"? |
| Comment by Picarrow [ 15/Aug/24 ] |
|
Likely because it's not fixed in a stable (non-experimental) version of the game. You have to enable the experiment to have the accessibility toggle work. Hence it's still a bug. |
| Comment by Ceresjanin123 [ 15/Aug/24 ] |
|
You need to enable it in accessibility settings I mean yeah it's off by default but it has a resolution now |
| Comment by 1LotS [ 15/Aug/24 ] |
|
Kind of. It's fixed when you use the minecart experiment. |

Is this fixed in 24w33a? |
| Comment by ArguedLamp [ 09/Aug/24 ] |

Another way to possible fix this could be a setting, like "camera follows mount". It more of an accessibility feature. |

Please reconsider seriously about patching this bug. Piston bolt can become seizure triggering if the player's FOV follows the minecart's orientation. |
| Comment by ncolyer11 [ 09/Aug/24 ] |
|
This bug assumes there's enough friction between the player and the inside of the minecart for them and their head to rotate with the cart. The player's FOV doesn't necessarily change when the minecart rotates, this is more in line with a feature request. Not to mention this would break almost every nether wart and chorus plant farm since 1.4.2. |

I do not see how the ticket about the minecarts losing there ablity to turn in corners for a time blocked this ticket?
As well, the simple fact this was given the important mojang priority could be seen as evidence it is in fact a bug and was not a intentional change |

I'm one of the old guard of coaster builders who got sick of waiting for this to be fixed/addressed. The project will be updated soon to also support diagonal rails through a custom rail block that can be clicked with a stick to make true diagonals, thus allowing for smooth diagonal turning as well. |

Not-so-fun fact: this is now the oldest still-open issue on here. Of course bugs reported before 1.4 were on a different website so there's older bugs, but this is now the lowest numbered bug page for what that's worth. |
| Comment by Fabian Röling [ 15/Feb/20 ] |
|
The "all" tab is always helpful. It shows that this report was already assigned (but that person had to leave Mojang for personal reasons). It has a priority set, triaged time, it got put into their internal bug tracker, etc. I don't even think that this bug is that critical, compared to some others, but there was definitely some Mojang activity. Please take all further discussion to https://www.reddit.com/r/mojira and complaints to… nowhere. Comments are intended for providing new information about a report or bug. |

Confirmed for 20w07a , just hoping for a miracle at this point, like, do they even care at all? You just don't "not see" a bug report for seven years. Mojang could at least give a statement on this, or perhaps they want the world record for oldest bug never fixed? Gotta thank all the helpers who have been updating this relic for all this time. |
| Comment by JeremyG [ 11/Dec/19 ] |

Testing for this issue in minecraft version 1.2.5, the FOV changes as expected. Turning through 90 degrees the FOV changes by 90 degrees too. When traveling diagonally the FOV changes correctly by 45 degrees. Even when looking backwards the FOV rotates as it would if you were traveling in a real minecart looking backwards. Doing the same tests with the next release, version 1.3 snapshot & 1.3.1, the FOV gets hopelessly lost when the minecart changes direction. According to https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_1.3.1 there was the following minecart change: "When riding a minecart that is currently on a rail, using directional keys will allow the player to slowly move the minecart in that direction." I wonder if that's the change which introduced this issue? This is a significant issue as it makes rollercoasters or long rail systems not so much fun in minecraft. |
| Comment by [Helper] Jack McKalling [ 10/Oct/19 ] |
|
To clarify, the fact that it used to work in a certain way doesn't mean it "broke" at some point. It might just have been decided to change at that time for some reason, which reason might have changed over time. |
| Comment by Caden Nickerson [ 09/Oct/19 ] |
|
This is for sure a bug. The FOV automatically turned with the minecart in version 1.3. That feature was great. They should really implement it again. It would really make rollercoasters worth riding again. |
| Comment by Fabian Röling [ 09/Oct/19 ] |
|
Directly above those two comments: "yes, this is definitely a bug, because this behaviour was programmed in and used to work for many versions until it broke at some point." |
| Comment by [Helper] Jack McKalling [ 09/Oct/19 ] |
|
To be honest, it does look like a feature request. But if it is a parity issue, it might get fixed in the future. No one knows in what version yet. |
| Comment by blue dragon [ 09/Oct/19 ] |
|
Any chance that Mojang will (finally) fix this for 1.15? I mean, it's getting ridiculous how long this has been here. |
| Comment by Fabian Röling [ 19/Jul/19 ] |
|
Not sure who you're replying to, but yes, this is definitely a bug, because this behaviour was programmed in and used to work for many versions until it broke at some point. |
| Comment by Gody van den Bogaard [ 19/Jul/19 ] |
|
This 'issue' has been in the game for a while yes, but it's not nearly as popular as This issue really depends on personal preferences; your type of usage, your mc world, your mc project. Not turning the view has the benefits of being able to orientate better while riding a minecart. Turning the view allows one to really enjoy the ride facing forward and force focus on certain areas. Calling this a bug is of course a bit of a stretch. Why not simply determine what default 'we' would all prefer and suggest to Mojang to add an option, 'orientation view' or 'free view' in minecarts (with the default we suggest). The java community is for now still more hardcore in minecraft-land so an option could make sense. |

Really hate to add chat to this, but I've followed it for about two years and it's been around for six. It's among the oldest JE bugs, if not being the oldest still open, and remains unassigned. Does staff care about this minor-but-annoying bug, or is it like the mystery bowl in the back of the office fridge that no one will touch?
In other words...should I stop following this issue to resolve my false hopes when I get e-mail about it?
I don't think it would be so bad if it worked this way in all editions, but I've seen it work on console, so it just feels wrong on PC. No staff in the comments in all this time...they do know we're here, right? lol |

Really? Do you play a Minecraft version from 2015 or earlier? Because since then controlling a boat is linked with your view, it should always rotate together. Can you make a video? |

When riding in a car in real life under normal (not crashing) conditions, you turn with the car, despite slight inertia to the contrary, unless you - choose - to turn your head sideways to watch something. When last I played Minecraft X-box a couple months ago, the view followed the cart, as is natural. Intended or otherwise, this is strange behavior that is contrary to a smooth experience. I like the idea of a toggle so that users who prefer the current behavior can - choose - to turn it on, just as the invert look/mouse has a toggle for those of us who've gotten used to flight-stick style controls in most any other 3D game. It's okay if Minecraft wants to be a little different, so long as we have options to reassert some normality. |

Tested in 1.6.2 single-player, found new behavior: the player's view now *does not turn at all* in response to turns of the minecart. This could be considered reasonable (self-consistent) behavior, but seeing as Mojang didn't say they fixed this bug in 1.6.2, I'm inclined to consider it an additional bug, instead. |

You could make a toggle for FOV turning, like, as a optional button or configuration toggle, so that it would work in the case above. But in normal, survival play, there should not be misalignments when turning, unless the player turns himself. |

@ Talven81. Thanks, I appreciate that. But it's quite a glaring issue that I noticed within literally seconds of the upgrade, and unfortunately it is currently spoiling the gameplay for me. I have many minecart tracks linking different areas in my main world |

Another update : After a few more minutes of play, the minecart SOUND is now glitching like mad, the first few milliseconds of the sound looping like crazy. And I've just seen a cow walking 'knee deep' in grass, glitching like crazy, I've never seen bugginess like this before, what the heck are they doing with the game?? By the way, I'm playing on PC, single player survival. I don't know if the original poster of this bug wants to update the report to say Mac AND PC. |
| Comment by default [ 20/Nov/12 ] |
|
1.4.5 update : It seems a little better regarding original issue, but still not quite right. But what is now WORSE is that the minecart is now flickering like it's vibrating backwards and forwards, all the time. I can't believe my eyes, I really can't. Are they not testing stuff properly at all now? After all the money they've made from the game? Please vote up this bug report if you agree! |

I disagree. in 1.2.5 and earlier, your field of view was kept exactly in the direction of the minecart. So you can see where you are going. When the cart turned 90 degrees, player view turned 90 degrees in sync with it. From 1.3 onwards, when the cart turns 90 degrees, player vision turns about 30-45 degrees. Sometimes it re-aligns to direction of travel, sometimes not. It's inconsistent. It worked before, now it doesn't, so that's a bug, a minor thing in the overall game, but something so easily fixed and I wish things like this were fixed. If anyone else agrees please click the vote button! |

This started happening since 1.3.1 (on Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit). I've reported it a few times on the wiki bug report forum and even tweeted Jeb about it but still not fixed on 1.4.2. It's one of the most annoying and disappointing bugs, as I have a large network of Minecart tracks in my world. It truly drives me nuts. |
