There we go, skeletons now have proper combat animations. https://gfycat.com/DarlingImperfectAnnelida

Also, I searched for the keywords "skeleton animation" and didn't find this report, so you might want to add them.

I posted it to the subreddit. I think you're right, he probably didn't realize this was implemented before.

Comment by [Mod] Torabi [ 06/Apr/15 ]

I think jeb probably saw it as a feature request, rather than a bug. He may not have understood the report, may not have realized that the behavior was ever implemented, or may have deliberately removed it. Considering Notch's coding style, it was probably an inflexible special-case bit of code, and it may have conflicted with some other issue. Regardless of the reason at the time, a substantial portion of the code has been replaced since then, and any broken remnants of this have probably long been factored out of the codebase – in other words, there's nothing to "fix", and it would have to be re-implemented entirely. As such, it probably won't be addressed through the bug tracker here, and this should be pursued elsewhere, such as the suggestions subreddit.

Opinions can change in two years. I think the devs saw the bug tracker more as a place to post game-breaking and important bugs than small graphical mistakes. However, it doesn't make sense for this to be an intended feature. If anything, it should be marked "Won't Fix".

Comment by Dlawso the Really Lucky Rabbit [ 04/Apr/15 ]

Its still intended, and has been intended for the past two years.

This is definitely not working as intended. Fix this. Still an issue to this day.

Comment by Philo Wintercoat [ 12/Oct/13 ]

What really bothers me about this one is that the proper pose was added as a feature, then later removed without explanation, along with a few others such as arrows sticking into mobs. (Yes, I know about the bug with resized mobs, but the set-size ones were fine!) Skeletons are bad enough with their imbalanced gameplay mechanics, but losing their aesthetics… Too far.

Comment by FireHunterX [ 08/Jan/13 ]

Who cares?
It's Minecraft. It's DESIGNED to not make sense.

If Minecraft had actual physics, THEN it would matter if the skeleton only shot with one arm.

Comment by Win7yes [ 06/Nov/12 ]

It's a graphic bug, something that people do not like. other than that it seems foolish to try shooting with one arm.

Is very stupid, skeleton can't shoot with one arm....

Comment by Daniele Carbone [ 05/Nov/12 ]

Jeb, can you explain us how to shoot an arrow with a bow using only one arm?

Comment by [Mojang] Jeb (Jens Bergensten) [ 05/Nov/12 ]

Stop wasting our time...

Comment by Numeritos [ 03/Nov/12 ]

Please fix this bug! The skeleton is a zombie with bow!

Comment by Adrián Santa Coloma [ 03/Nov/12 ]

Fix this bug, please. I love the old skeleton ^^

Comment by Joshua [ 03/Nov/12 ]

For anyone still unsure. In 1.8.1 skeletons used both arms to hold the bow. In 1.4.2 only the right arm holds the bow and the other is placed straight out like a zombie.

It looks ridiculous and really should be fixed.

Comment by Pukasz Ero [ 02/Nov/12 ]

It´s a minor bug, but can help to improve the minecraft quality

Comment by Daniel [ 02/Nov/12 ]

I think minecraft is each minecraft version is more realistic, and that the mobs do not catch the bow is a little weird

Comment by Dustin Dowell [ 02/Nov/12 ]

Ah, thanks Enri. I see that now. It was such a small change I didn't notice.

Comment by enri [ 02/Nov/12 ]

For all those that don't understand the problem, the first 4 pictures shows the skeleton's left arm holding the bow and in the last 3 pictures the skeleton's left arm isn't holding the bow. ^^

Comment by Enzo Salomon [ 02/Nov/12 ]

@Andrew Reed And @Dustin Dowell The problem is the arm of the skeleton is misplaced in the 1.4

Comment by Andrew Reed [ 02/Nov/12 ]

I too fail to see what's wrong with the skeletons. Someone should describe, in words, what's wrong.

Comment by Dustin Dowell [ 02/Nov/12 ]

@Alexander Are you serious? Really? ...I looked at the pictures, didn't see a problem. Still don't. Are you referring to the arm not holding the bow sticking out? No where on this page did it mention how the arms were misplaced.

Comment by Finn [ 02/Nov/12 ]

It's a terrible bug, skeletons have arms like a paralytic (No offense)

Comment by Sergi Sala Padullés [ 02/Nov/12 ]

Please fix it D:

Comment by Alexander Escarate Parra [ 02/Nov/12 ]

@Dustin Dowell with respect, do not be a idiot, see the photos

Comment by Dustin Dowell [ 02/Nov/12 ]

I don't understand the problem. He looks good to me...
Maybe post before pictures as well?

Comment by Pablo Gabriel Espinosa Aguilar [ 02/Nov/12 ]
