Both pistons are in the same environment in exception to the repeater added to the side of a block (to split the signal). Piston with added repeater will stay extended but piston without will retract.

Unable to reproduce in 13w02b, assuming fixed.

The same thing happens if you use wire to transfer the signal to the piston or replace the repeater the button powers with redstone dust. This is not related to MC-108.
