 Description

server texture packs dont work anymore

what I expected to happen: I join the server and I get the message:"this server reccoments the use of a certain texturepack. do you wish to install it automagically?"

what actually happened: nothing happened. I allready tried turning server textures off, relogging, turn it on. but it didn't help

steps to reproduce.
1. go to texture pack site
2. copy the link of the download(if you click on that link the download to your pc will start)
3. place it in the server.properties file after the server-texture=
4. save and start up the server
5. join the server

additional information: it used to work when it was first introduced. I don't know when it stopped working.

Ancient mechanic now. Not yet implemented in the new system.

Server textures are broken since the new texture mechanic. They work when you force-reload them (F3+T) but initially are bugged.

Thanks for the update .

it works better for me in 1.4.6

Additional info:
The server logfile shows that Minecraft downloads just a fraction of the file:

xxxxxxx.de anon-91.xxxxx.net - - [25/Nov/2012:10:32:25 +0100] "GET /Misa432.zip HTTP/1.1" 200 57748 "-" "Java/1.7.0_09"

While downloading the same file seconds later with Firefox transferred the complete file:

xxxxxxx.de anon-91.xxxxx.net - - [25/Nov/2012:10:33:20 +0100] "GET /Misa432.zip HTTP/1.1" 200 51471700 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0"

Second try with Minecraft came to the same result:

xxxxxxx.de anon-91.xxxxx.net - - [25/Nov/2012:10:36:19 +0100] "GET /Misa432.zip HTTP/1.1" 200 57748 "-" "Java/1.7.0_09"

Can confirm.
Minecraft asks to install the texture pack, but the texture pack won't be downloaded. In the texturepacks-mp-cache folder is a file with the correct name but zero bytes.

Comment by Intelli [ 25/Nov/12 ]

I can confirm it's not working. Specifying the texture pack in server.properties as "texture-pack=http://example.com/my_awesome_texturepack.zip" DOES work.

However, once it downloads, the .zip file just sits in the texturepacks-mp-cache folder, and is not installed / extracted.

if someone send me a server ip wich uses texturepacks and let me join them I can prove that it's not working

Comment by Maarten Thijs [ 01/Nov/12 ]

@Meta I used an url from the download. so when I go to the site of wich you can download the texturepack. I take the URL from the download button and place it in the server.properties
I also deleted my texturepacks-mp-chache and forced install so a brand new texturepack folder was made. even though I did that it doesn't work.

Try uploading the texture pack to a different site and like Meta said make sure the url is correct and is a direct link the the .zip

Comment by Meta [ 31/Oct/12 ]

Not a bug.

If I understand what you write, you don't even get a dialogue to accept the texture pack?
Make sure you enter an URL in server.properties for texture-pack, for example: "http://example.com/my_awesome_texturepack.zip".
If you don't have a domain, you can use an ftp link I guess or the IP of your server (if it is a server, you might have to use filehosters then for LAN worlds or something)

If it worked once and you upated it, head to "texturepacks-mp-cache" inside your .minecraft directory and delete the texturepack inside. Then join the server and redownload it.
