MyName And aside from the fact that Mojang/Minecraft did not belong to Microsoft before (for the longest part of its existence so far), and this bug report system is very much older than Microsoft owning Mojang... We, who still are contributing to make this game better, are possibly all in love with the game itself and some of its community, despite what we may or may not think about Microsoft owning Mojang/Minecraft. Keep your misplaced "pity" for somebody and somewhere else. Some of us also do good deeds like helping to feed and cloth people by the way, one does not exclude the other. Thank you for trying to help though, have fun gaming in the future }=) |

Argh... 5x I created time consuming detailed posts with supporting data here. Created NEW issue --> https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-106466 Argh.. This will be my last bug report. Minecraft is paid for software with paid people on staff to make it better. I'm not getting paid for helping to make your software better to keep the staff, developers employed, collect Microsoft stock shares, and make more money. Any other bug reports from me, then refund my purchase of Minecraft for helping you or pay me as an independent contractor. Those that are volunteers here, I feel sorry for you. Working for free to help build feed and cloth people in poor places/countries is one thing. Working for free to help a profitable business make more money that increases it's stock price and makes it's investors more money is another. |

That is a different issue. The farmland block changes from 15/16 of a block to dirt which is a full block. The entity is then stuck in the block and falls through. |

Again did a 2nd control test in creative mode to prove this needs to be reopened. This is even more crystal clear of what I did. Mob-sink-in-block2.gif 4 villagers in glass. You will see at the end, I was suprised they will walk out of it too. Windows 10 Pro 64bit I'm curious if anybody who does this DOES NOT get the results. |

Here's 100% proof in my last GIF upload. @Meri Diana, my previous world was created in 1.10.2. In my latest GIF above, you will see I recreated the issue. You can do it to. 1. Creative mode:
You can see in the GIF, that it happened with both villagers I trapped and tested. Again, this looks like the same problem as https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-104259 , but in |

MyName You can attach files incl. worldsavefiles like you can also attach screenshots here: I'm not sure, but I'd assume that the whole worldsave probably would be best, to see if the problem lies within the world somewhere but has not really something to do with this bug here, or it does after all. |

Here's a screenshot showing the problem still occurs with 16w33a. All technical details are in the screenshot. Asking if this problem can be reopened. More accurately, this seems to occur once every 5-10 hrs. If I upload my world for the developers to test the problem, I would need more information on what specifically(specific file or whole directory zipped) I would upload and suggestions on where to put it (Dropbox? other?). Thank you. |

Version 1.10.2 @Alexander, I just saw your post now. I don't know how to do what you asked, but I will try and figure it out to help. UPDATE: No, I can't find 16w33a. UPDATE: Figured it out and trying 16w33a. Thank you. UPDATE: After a good amount of time where it seems I should have seen farmers stuck in a block, I haven't seen anything. However, I still get stuck in a block sometimes. Reported that here with an animated GIF. May be the same root cause to this issue. |

@My Name Make a copy of your world and update it to the latest snapshot (16w33a) to see if it happens there. Because a bug is only relevant if it hapens on the very latest version, and it might be the case that it happens on 1.10.2, but doesn't in 16w33a. If it keeps happening to you in the snapshot, please post some screenshots of it and when you see the bug happen. Also, save the world and upload it somewhere so that the devs can download it and maybe figure out what causes it. This is assuming that the bug persists after a exiting and reentering the game, that is. |

(hope I'm reporting this in the correct location. I searched for duplicates and found this post.) I have had this issue countless times now on 1.10.2. So far it's only happened to me with villagers and only with farmer villagers on rough(unraked) dirt blocks that had farmed. I don't know if it happens to any others as the others all stand on stone blocks and are fenced away from dirt. It's easily happened ~8 times now and looks just like the many other screenshots. I will break the block, they will climb out, and I'll replace it with dirt again, and again they get stuck. I now replace those particular blocks with stone, but they just get stuck in other dirt blocks. Not sure if it makes a difference, but all my villages are underground and the are they farm was stone, but I replaced it with dirt for farmers to farm. I have no villages outside so I don't know if it happens there. This now happens so frequently to where if I leave and return, ~70% chance I will have 1 of 2 farm villagers sunk in the dirt, or both of them sunk in the dirt. Win 10
More details: Sometimes when jumping from one level to another, (haven't found a pattern yet) I will be stuck in an (seems invisible) block and struggle to move. Haven't found a way to repeat the issue, but it's occurred > 4x now. All 1.10.2. I happens so often now, that I'm scared to walk around when it's getting dark and I'm near an unlit area. If I get stuck, I can't defend myself well. Once it occurred while digging sand with a Efficiency V shovel. Slowly I walked off a ledge hoping gravity would allow me to fall and unstick myself. It worked. Another time with Efficiency V shovel on sand, an invisible block was created. I couldn't walk though it. I placed a land block there (don't remember if it was sand, dirt, or rock), dug it away, and it cleared. I was now able to walk through this point. Again, although it's not exactly related, I found this issue reported elsewhere, but those were labeled duplicate and referred to this post, so I'm posting it in the comments. Don't know how to reopen the issue. |

Significant problems since the most recent update this week... Mobs are sinking into the ground or blocks, and popping up randomly, or floating above surfaces; also they are travelling far too quickly, moving backwards, jumping very high, some can't be killed... Can't play anymore due to nearly instant death! |

I haven't experienced that before, probably just because I have good wifi. It's probably a connection problem. Also, it may not just be on the PC. I was playing PE earlier and some animals suffocated through the wall. (I did not use fences.) It was annoying. |

As of today, my iron golems are still sinking through the ground (there's a railroad beneath the ground) in my slime farm, usually within the hour of placing them. Very annoying; my farm is currently unusable. |
| Comment by Djfe [ 29/Sep/14 ] |
|
I don't think player sinking is related to mobs sinking at all. if my internet connection is too slow I can also sink through the floor, because the client hasn't fully loaded all chunks. |
| Comment by Clint Kennedy [ 29/Sep/14 ] |
|
Iron golems don't jump and they are also sinking. I have personally sunk through the floor multiple times while playing on an smp server as well while just running. |
| Comment by BoxFigs [ 29/Sep/14 ] |
|
I think this has to do with mobs jumping. I recently built a wolf-powered skeleton farm on my server. I noticed that the wolf that kills the skeletons sometimes sinks into the hoppers below when it jumps up to attempt to reach the skeletons that are about to fall onto it (it almost always jumps, but rarely sinks). When I was testing and developing the skeleton farm in Creative singleplayer, the wolf sometimes sunk when it jumped, too. |

Pierre: No, sir. We should continue to report all bugs regardless of their severity. But when you have a list of thousands of problems in an arena like this, you have to start somewhere. It makes the most sense to fix FIRST the things that impact the most people in the most way and, in some cases, to fix easier ones first if it affects more people. There are more problems than just this. |

This will probably be fixed in 1.9 or a 1.8.X update as this requires them see what causes the issue and how to fix it. Just wondering was this a problem since availability (first person purchased/downloaded) or sometime in alpha or beta? |

What is also really bad about this bug is that it is lingering on through all of the code cleanup and optimization that has been done for 1.8. It must be a difficult problem. So if 1.8 doesn't address it you may as well consider this simply how Minecraft is going to be for a long while. |
| Comment by Joel Francis [ 11/Aug/14 ] |
|
I stopped playing Minecraft for a while shortly after full release (1.0). It was not a bug that existed around then. It cropped up between then and now – I'm not saying it's easy to solve, but it's definitely a bit of a problem. |
| Comment by SuburbSomeone (lastname) [ 11/Aug/14 ] |
|
Seen this for as long as I've been on Minecraft, def. a big issue that seems easy to solve, but I don't really mind. It's weird, but what can you expect from a game constantly in progress? |
| Comment by SystemsReady [ 03/Aug/14 ] |
|
I've more noticed small animals such as chickens and rabbits doing this. What's odd is that not only do they sink in there, but the collision detection for all other parts works properly - after I saw a rabbit sink into grass blocks, it suffocated and died (smoke particles obvious) and I got EXP for it. It was really odd. |
| Comment by Joel Francis [ 28/Jul/14 ] |
|
I've noticed that it seems to happen more frequently when partial blocks are around – half-slabs, stairs, fences and so forth. A single half slab placed in an enclosure with animals or villagers will cause problems frequently, up to and including suffocation if the animals stay "underground" too long. The suffocating is more prevalent with baby animals and villagers. |

@Kast_van_Galen_Last and @Djfe Thats not true. Mobs don't just visually sink or drift out. You can actually hit them when they're drifting horizontally. Vertically sinking IS a visual thing, but not horizontally. Plus this had to do with the stuff they added in 1.4.2 obviously. This means that the fix may be to rewrite everything added in 1.4.2 until it IS fixed. This would also fix |
| Comment by aidan pallian [ 03/Jul/14 ] |

Mojang really needs to fix this. The game is unplayable since i think this is connected to animals generating somewhere else when loading worlds. |

@Djfe true, but still the mobs 'sink' through solid blocks. What should not do that, even with so many entities. I think it is quite the same as this bug. But you might can call it else |

I'm not sure if this is related to the multiplayer bug where someone is in the floor/up in the air. Actually I have only seen it happening on the hypixel server (quakecraft) where the client showed people flying several blocks in the air or where in the ground. |
| Comment by Paul Smith [ 23/Jun/14 ] |
|
Yeah, in multiplayer this could happen with players as well, except when it happens the player doesn't bob up and down when they move, and you can only hit them where they are in the ground, which makes this very annoying when you're fighting another player. They can be at different elevations as well, sometimes higher sometimes lower. |
| Comment by iCole [ 23/Jun/14 ] |

This has also happened to me while playing with my friends on servers, where an actual player would sink into the ground. |

@Djfe, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I despair for the bugs from January this year, but Mods have made some comments on other tickets that suggest that there is significant re-engineering going on and that bugs may go un-addressed while the underlying systems are overhauled. I can understand that, I just wish there was better communication of that here and in the release notes for the snapshots. It would prevent people from getting (quite legitimately) upset at the apparent (due to the lack of in-band communications) inaction. |

I think a viable solution is to [Partially] use hit boxes to detect ground and objects around. I might actually open up with this topic, and it might have to do with the skin bug occurring that i have reported. Then again, hit boxes are not always reliable. but try it out in a test version, will you? It might just work. |

| Comment by Tokes [ 17/Dec/13 ] |

I've had this happen to me regularly in single player (1.7.2). I thought this was one of those bugs that everyone knew about and was just waiting for a fix (like the well known "every villager in a town crowds into 1 house" bug). God knows it happens often enough that you'd have to only be playing rarely to not see it. I find it's about once a day every day, and that's just the ones I notice (I assume it's happening 4 times as often but I fail to spot it the other 3 times). |
| Comment by Cameron Arnott [ 07/Dec/13 ] |
|
Still happening in release 1.7.3 ( 2013/12/07) single player (i haven't tried on server) I'm noticing it happening with ALL mobs/characters at different times and in different places. ie: not all mobs in the same place will be effected only some. happens on slabs, full terrain blocks, manufactured blocks etc. sometimes even going as far as to actually leave their true current block and walking away through/under blocks. also falling through hoppers (eg: in a chicken farm.. they sometimes appear at base level of hopper instead of on top. same with slabs, and not actually being treated as in or on the block) sorry i don't know how or if i can add in the version its happening with. if i could i'd add it to 1.7.3 and its snapshot releasts |
| Comment by Alexander Gundermann [ 04/Dec/13 ] |
|
@Djfe I did that already and posted my findings above. By now, I'm fairly certain that what I described is the main cause. It's primarily the server that sends wrong positions to the client. |
| Comment by Djfe [ 04/Dec/13 ] |
|
well it has something to do with the server-client connection would be interesting to see a mod which tracks the animals position used by client and the ones used by the server to determine whether the client gets wrong position by the server or whether the client messes the right position up the problem is that this doesn't always happen |
| Comment by David Buddy [ 04/Dec/13 ] |
|
@RandomDSplayer I could be server lag but it could also be a bug that has to do with the Singleplayer & Multiplayer merge back in 1.3 and then appeared in 1.4 because Mojang changed some of the code around. Well that's just my theory |
| Comment by RandomDSplayer [ 03/Dec/13 ] |
|
No, there's no absolute way it can be server lag. I'm sure that this glitch has been around since before the LAN button was introduced, even on singleplayer! |
| Comment by Djfe [ 02/Dec/13 ] |
|
It's probably a bug/glitch caused by the server lag |

Not true. I can reproduce this with frame rates 60+ I tested this at 60,80,and 110 |

This isn't really a bug or glitch, it's because of lag |
| Comment by RandomDSplayer [ 23/Nov/13 ] |

This glitch still exists, even in the most recent version, as of what I know. I'm not a Mojang developer, but I can tell it's a hitbox glitch. The mobs can't be hit until the block they're in is broken. |

I confirm this bug is happening in 13w42b as well. I see it most often with slimes but any creature can do it. Its basically the same behavior I saw in older versions. The easiest way to re-create for me is, have the mob in a mine cart. Destroy the mine cart under him. |
| Comment by James Carter [ 19/Oct/13 ] |
|
Having watched mobs a lot, this bug is generated when the mob uses stairs, or jumps up one block. It seems to be related to how high the mob is jumping. Hope this helps. I can recreate this bug with any entity in the game, so it is systemic, not conditional. Yes, this is confirmed for 13w42b, just got killed by a baby pigman, and all I could see was his sword and the top of his head sticking out of the ground. |
| Comment by [Mod] Ezekiel (ezfe) [ 19/Oct/13 ] |
|
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 13w42b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. |
| Comment by Adam [ 06/Oct/13 ] |
|
I confirm this is happening in 13w39 as well. One very easy way to re-create it is to have a mob ride in a minecart and than break the cart under him. For about a minute he will walk around half in the ground. After a while, it does correct itself and he starts walking on the ground as normal. |

Happens in 1.6.2, mobs sink half a block after falling in a floor trap but if they are heading toward you they just sink half a block and then magically pop back up and bypass it. |

I recently made a bugfix mod for glitching mobs and even though I couldn't reliably reproduce this issue in 1.6.2, I think there's a good chance this should be covered as well: https://github.com/taurose/Unglitch (4). In the tracker code there's a flag that determines whether an entity has moved far enough to send a position update. Several lines later, if the flag is true, the tracker stores the entity's location that is supposedly sent to the players for later updates. However, it seems that over time Mojang added several conditions to circumvent that flag and send or not send position updates regardless, which causes the "last sent" locations to be off. And once that happened, the clients receive false position updates and the entity appears offset. If that's the source of the issue, this would be related to |

this is still very much happening. I have lots of video of it. I have an iron golem farm with villagers constantly falling out of their enclosures, I have cows, chickens, cats... just about any mob getting stuck in blocks [my entire chicken farm is dead]... and oddly on my skeleton XP farm, at the "drop", the skeleton will teleport up and down the shaft until finally committing to the drop and then I can kill them. I don't know if it is related, but watching the villagers fall out of the golem farm, it is similar in nature. they fall out, then up, then down, then up, then down and will eventually reside on the ground. I hope it is fixed at some point. |

@phycist1616 That's true, but when they aren't entirely buried, they sometimes "teleport" to some other location and become unstuck. I've had this happening with a horse: the horse went under blocks and disappeared, and when I dug him out, he was 10 meters to side, above ground. Looks like some problem with syncing. |

Very bad issue in 1.6.2, horse sinking into ground is no fun. Usually it's needed to dig a huge hole and excavate the animal. |

Hey, Ezekiel. Thanks for checking in on these bugs to keep the affected versions list up to date, but users zombie hunter and Michael Wobst have already commented that 1.6.2 is affected by this bug. I just double-checked, too. I spawned 8 chickens in 1.6.2 Singleplayer Creative and led them around with seeds. It only took about 15 seconds before a couple of them started sinking through blocks. This bug still exists in 1.6.2. |

I've seen this a few times. Usually the lighting on the mob is too dark when they're in the block (seen with a baby chicken, a cow, and a wolf). A similar thing happened with a boat placed on the ground (this one time, I put a boat on the ground and it sank through a block with me in it once I got in). Does that deserve it's own issue, or can it go here because boats and mobs are both entities? |

I really think that this bug is just a symptom of a bigger problem. Ever since the merge of single player and multiplayer there have been a few seriously annoying bugs that just never seem to get fixed.
These are just a few and I think the problem comes down to some serious sync issues between player and client that came about after the merge. It seems that the client and server are regularly at odds to the position of players. mobs, and other moving entities. It's gotten to the point where I adjust my gameplay to compensate for what I'm guessing the server is thinking. I would also take a guess that the reason there seems to be no acknowledgement at all of a bug like this one (that is at the top of the list) maybe due to the fact that they are hoping to fix this problem with the new client when it finally is done. I also can't help but wonder if on a high speed work lan and using top of the line hardware whether it's possible that these problems don't exhibit themselves as much, so it not apparent how discouraging they are for many players. Right or wrong I dunno but I do know that since them merge some things have never been the same. |

This may provide another clue: After a long search, I believe my problem here belongs in this discussion as well as the suffocation issues when mobs "encounter" solid blocks and get damage/death. In a village, when a villager is stranded atop a high place, I have often "gravel-ed up" and coaxed it to ride down the "gravel-ator" safely to the ground. Sometimes they would apparently take it down a few levels, then jump. All other times, at various levels, the villagers would fall through the remaining blocks & begin to suffocate. I'd have to bang out the remaining gravel blocks to save it, but it would take damage the whole time – whether this damage was from continued suffocation, my swatting away the gravel as it fell, or both – I do not know. This is a consistent problem. I have several other suffocation-type problems that are well-described by other people here. I also get the significant lag that is prevalent throughout the game – but I work off of a laptop. I always update when MC prompts me to, so I assume I'm on the latest version. Everything I do is strictly VANILLA. I am in PEACEFUL MODE. I hope this sheds a little more light on the parameters of this large, very annoying problem. |

An easy way to replicate this issue is to spawn mobs on lily pads, clientside they will immediately sink through. And as opposed to being in real water zombies burn, endermen won't take damage and creepers blow up the lily pads. Here is a video that demonstrates it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0PQpQ-CVrM |

I'm afraid the wiki page never said anything about this bug being fixed. IMO, the wiki user age2empires2020 just vented his/her anger that lots of new features have been added before making the already existing features work correctly. Look, for example, at this revision of the "Version history/Development" versions wiki page, which I think started the debate. Under "13w16a" it says "Bugs" and "Top 10 most popular bugs", but nothing about them being fixed. As opposed to "Bug fixes" in all other entries. |

We are talking about the floor, the walls is a separate bug, however that was on the list of fixed things too. However if you open up the new launcher it should say under 13w16a, update available. @Nathan Gorzelanczyk I think Mojang deserves a bit more credit. I think they know how to fix the majority of these old bugs but the fix is too computationally costly. This is especially true with the lighting issues. CPU time spend doing bounding box and collision checks is time not spent rendering and performing other actions. Java isn't exactly snappy and the average MC player's computer isn't a gaming rig. I think they're doing their best. |

I was wondering if this bug is also related to recent bug I found... basically you can go to room that have ceiling. You have to be creative since it's more obvious with little longer block placement range. At right height you can place block then server removes it since it's actually too far in server side, yet it is close enough on client side. This disagreement of placement ranges may be same type of bug (if not literally same) as this. Mob Y may have disagreed and as result mob falls down one block on client side but for server its at correct place. (In fact, misalignment is in same direction too! HMM) |

Confirmed its a age old bug since before 1.2 but it never has paticulary caught the eye of mojang and those images are actually not very reliable becuase a side effect of sinking into a block messes up lighting making it dead dark on the animal so they appear almost black so those images are actually unreliable or special to you although rest of post is good |

I endorse what Glenn Tottman (11/Mar/13) said, if Nathan is sure he can explain what is happening, let him get his point across. While, in my opinion, Nathan acted a bit impolitely with the moderator (sorry, but I need to be frank), the moderator was pretty much like "shut up, we know what we're doing", he'd better let him explain all once and for all and stop this unnecessary argument or it's going to drag forever. |

I tried to consolidate in a higher post, but it too was considered a duplicate. I tried this argument before. I said all blocks and fences are two entirely different things. So everyone at the moment is not on the same page. As this is the lowest post, and most active, everything should link to it. As it all corresponds to each other. Therefor there are not 10 different post on the same subject. |

Ive experienced this as well and even more alarming the mobs sometimes find themselves suffocating in the wall. I find suffocation happens more often when a baby animal or villager transitions to an adult. i have no way to replicate this but i have experienced it through snapshot 13w09c. but like i said it seems harmless as long as they stay an adult or baby its maturing that allows them to enter a block and suffocate. |

I just created a world in Snapshot 13w10b (vanilla) and there were 2 wolves - one of them sunken into a dirtblock. When destroying the dirtblock the wolf was sunken into, he sunk into the next block underneath him. Edit: After saving and reloading the world the mentioned wolf was not sunken anymore. But while loading the other wolf got forced 5 blocks to the right, like he was pulled. Then everything was fine. Maybe it has something to do with creating mobs. |

I can confirm this in 13w03a also. I think it definitely has something to do with non-solid blocks because I got it when a zombie tried to walk over a comparator and then fell off into the ground. |

Tomas Watchorn, it still happens. I have a pet cat and dog, and sometimes, when they roam around, I notice them momentarily disappearing into the ground for up to 30 seconds at a time. When this happens, their skin turns black, and they sometimes go invisible altogether. I'm using 13w03a, the latest available at the time of posting this . |

I'm surprised we haven't had a dev comment on this one by now. It's been hard enough to properly time an incoming mob especially since the separation of the client and server in SP and this bug makes it even worse for hostile mobs when it occurs. I'm tarting to suspect that they are leaving it for the release of the the new client to see what happens. Regardless one way to duplicate it in SMP is to go to the end and go 128 blocks out into the void, then build a large triangular platform out of cobble that extends out for a further 64 blocks. Now build a diamond shaped cover two blocks above the platform in one corner. The cap should be large enough that when you place a water bucket in the center it spread to the egdes without spilling over. This is to ensure that the endermen don't teleport on top of the cap. You may also have to build a small room below the platform under the cap. Not sure if it's necessary but it is how I had done it on the MCD server. Now if you stand under the cap and eyeball all the endermen that have spawned of the platform they should all teleport in to the base of the cap and bunch up. While you kill them off you should notice that they regularly fall into the floor of the cobble platform. Rinse and repeat until you have enough data on what is going on. |

I, too, have this problem except with chickens and villagers in areas where I have removed blocks then replaced them with the same block. The only solution I have found is to kill the NPC. |

| Comment by Eric Goulet [ 06/Jan/13 ] |

Paulquappe, I would call these the same sort of bug because mobs of any type are passing through materials they shouldn't... whether it is sinking in the floor or slipping through a wall. With the screenshot of the villagers, you'll note that they appear sort of dark/black-ish when embeded in the wall. This is the same with the mobs that are sinking. |
| Comment by Paulquappe [ 06/Jan/13 ] |
|
@eric goulet: i can confirm this. did not notice it is the same bug, but maybe it is. like you said, mobs can travel "trough" fences, mostly noticable in farms. |
| Comment by Eric Goulet [ 06/Jan/13 ] |
|
In addition to sinking (most noticable) and passing through walls (careful attention required), mobs can pass through fences. I had a farm of sorts set up and noticed the population slowly declining. It was most noticeable with colored sheep since they could be tracked. I engaged fly mode and moved around to find a bunch of the color sheep had "migrated" to another area 50-100ish blocks away. They were with, what appeared to be, some of the missing pigs/cows. I can't confirm them though - only the colored sheep. I culled that flock and rebred some of the sheep... and waited. In "mobs passing through fence.jpeg" we see the sheep, with enough time, have passed right through the fence to hang out on the ledge they are not willing to fall from. |
| Comment by Eric Goulet [ 06/Jan/13 ] |
|
In addition to "sinking", mobs are able to pass through solid walls. We see in these two screen shots that the villager is starting to enter/pass through the wall. We also see one outside of the wall. The villager on the outside of the box started inside. He couldn't jump over anything and passed through the cobblestone wall. EDIT: In reference to images named: "Screenshot from 2012-12-31.jpeg" and "Screenshot from 2012-12-31 2.jpeg" |

I've had this bug/glitch too, quite a lot. After a while of playing, it gets annoying. Sometimes, like spiders, completely sink in the ground and you don't know they're there until they attack. This bug happens quite a lot in 1.4.6. |
| Comment by chris nelson [ 24/Dec/12 ] |

Almost all farms on the server I play on (1.4.6) have had the animals suffocate after the newest patch. If the position isn't getting updated properly like in previous bugs it's now 'properly' recognizing that they are inside the floor. |

me and my friend somehow reproduced it. When we're next to each other mobs are more likely to glitch out than when we're 10-15 blocks appart. it happends alot, but im not 100% sure about it, but worth checking out. We were playing on 1.4.5 vanilla server. |

happens to me mostly to villagers |
| Comment by Tomas Kelly [ 20/Nov/12 ] |

NPCs/mobs (most commonly villagers) also glitch through solid blocks laterally/horizontally. This can sometimes happen even when not being pushed by other NPCs/mobs. They treat the solid block as though it wasn't even there - maybe a space they will not preferably go, but if pushed or influenced will enter it unrestricted. If pushed enough (or even if just trying to escape from an enclosure), they will eventually walk straight through the obstruction, before teleporting back when about 10-15 blocks away or when attacked. This happens with any solid block including cobblestone walls and fences, and the most common exit point is through a corner, although they can leave through a flat/straight section of the obstruction, whatever it may be. |

It's been common since 1.3 and affects all mobs hostile and passive. It seems to occur more often when there are blocks at different levels and especially when there are other Blocks and entities in the area. I have also noticed it often happens to the player around redstone devices where there are a lot repeaters, torches redstone and blocks around. The game seems to correct the problem with a player very quickly, so it exhibits as the player bobbing into the ground and out again. |

After some watching of mobs that do this, It seems to occur after they collide with a wall, can anyone verify? It seems like when they hit a wall for some reason they drop in to the ground on occasion to the block below them, causing glitchy appearance |

In 1.4.2, I build a sheep tower farm that has 2-thick floors of grass. For me the mobs do not sink through the floor of this tower, but instead sink sort of diagonally through the 1-thick wool walls. At any given time less than 1% of the were glitched. The lowest floor of this tower was built at water level over the ocean. I upgraded to 1.4.3pre and started building another sheep tower to try and improve my design. The lowest level is a 1-thick floor of grass that is raised 5 blocks off the ground of a superflat world. Now at any given time about a third of the sheep on this level are either black inside of the grass blocks or ghosting 5 blocks down on the generated terrain of the world. Higher levels still have a 1-thick floor, but those sheep only do the somewhat diagonal sinking, and very few of these sheep are glitched at a time. I think the glitch is caused by sheep being able to push other sheep through the walls or floor if they are very densely packed in an area. And a sheep, on its own, seems to be able to start sinking after getting stuck in a transparent block such as glass panes or fences/fencegates |
| Comment by Rolf Redford [ 02/Nov/12 ] |

Interesting! I wonder if sinking mobs means there is air somewhere in ground below them? Not sure what limits would be (would bedrock cave cause this, or only within "subchunk" (forgot name)? |

I've got three cow farms. One is on grass (that I placed) at ground level: no problem. One is on stone (naturally occurring) in a cave: no problem. One is on a 3-thick floating grass platform (that I placed), and there this bug is nonstop. (1.4.2) |

Interesting. I was testing portal functions... I made single block portal on ground and set a room in netherland. I made few cows and lured em into portal. I then lured em back to overworld. They were all one block under. The effect stays even if they walk into lower land. It's like topmost block does not exist for them. |

first time i noticed it it was in an early weekly update with a week after the itemframes were added or so, first my cat's started to glitch through halve slaps and later through floors, but i didnt realy knew how to report it then and wasnt in the mood to look it up thinking someone els probably wil make a report about it, guess i was wrong >< |

Yes this did happen to me in SSP and I have noticed the villagers, If you look in the background of that picture you will notice a netherbrick fence, and if you look closely there is some rails, this is my minecart track around the village, but it doesn't work because every time I load up the world their is a villager standing on the rail, and it bounces me back. |
| Comment by James carter [ 27/Oct/12 ] |
|
I have reproduced this in 1.4.2... villagers and stairs seem to be a great trigger. Have not found anything unusual about the topography when monsters fall through the ceiling tho... but only those that jump (spiders, slimes) glitch through the floor above. |
| Comment by Iree [ 26/Oct/12 ] |

This happens to me on 1.4.2 quite a lot. SSP I also enclosed some witches in a 2x2 space and one of them kept running away through a corner and teleporting back. |

This has happened to me sporadically since 1.3. I've seen it effect Zombies, but I've sunken into the ground myself a few times. Once on a block with lava underneath, which caused me to burn to death. |
| Comment by Tomas Kelly [ 26/Oct/12 ] |
|
This often happens to me too (using 1.4.2), though mainly with humanoid NPCs/mobs climbing up stairs. They enter the ground and walk around half-submerged, then randomly pop up again later. If there is a block or surface alongside the stairs with and empty space above it, they attempt to walk onto it, but if they are still slightly below it, they half enter the block, and so are submerged. This occurs most often with villagers. |
| Comment by NeverCast [Joshua Lloyd] [ 26/Oct/12 ] |
|
I notice this with any moving entity in Multiplayer servers, from what I gather, sometimes the client gets confused about where the entity actually is, and because Minecraft's movement data is relative not absolute ( Unless teleporting or moving more than 4, i think it's 4; blocks in a single movement ). When this occurs, you can either try get the mob to move really fast, in the case of a player, tell them to run around and jump lots for your own sanity so they stop glitching in the ground, as for actual mobs. It's a bit more difficult to fix it, one solution is to walk away and come back, or to pick them up with a minecart. I realise that there is no difference between multiplayer and the integrated single player now, but it does seem to occur more often in SMP, which I'm assuming is due to some sort of latency. Solution? |

I could not confirm this for 1.4.2pre local. I built a wooden fence about 10x10 and spawned a sheep within. Then I pushed the sheep around for 2 minutes. The sheep remained on the correct level the entire time. Wasn't this fixed in 1.4.1pre? |
