You have different kind of moon phases in Minecraft. The moon is supposed to reflect light from the sun, so for example you will have a crescent moon. When you drink a night vision potion, the moon phase doesn't change with it. It should show the whole moon. |

Not going to take on the non-fact that the phase of the moon in Minecraft would be related to the local star's relative direction (as it obviously is not)... But assuming it is intended to look as if lit by a bright object in the direction of side that is bright, then drinking night vision potion should not change its phase. That bright thing would still be there, and the same side would still be brighter than the other. Then again, being such a weird system overall, anything goes, really |
