[MC-1124] Mouse "Back" and "Forward" open menu in windowed mode. Created: 29/Oct/12  Updated: 20/Apr/20  Resolved: 17/Jun/13

Status: Resolved
Project: Minecraft: Java Edition

Affects Version/s: Minecraft 1.4.2, Minecraft 1.4.4, Minecraft 1.4.5, Minecraft 1.4.6, Minecraft 1.5.1, Minecraft 1.5.2
Fix Version/s: Snapshot 13w25a

Type: Bug

Resolution: Fixed Votes: 4
Labels: control, multiplayer
Environment:

Windows Vista 64-bit, PC

CHK:
Confirmation Status: Confirmed
Game Mode: Survival

 Description

=== Reproducible
1. Play Minecraft.
2. Press mouse 4 or mouse 5 in windowed mode and it opens a menu (unwanted behaviour not intended or specified by any possible control binding within the game).

=== Background & specifics
I'm using mouse 4 (side-back button) as Push-To-Talk in TeamSpeak while playing Minecraft.

My mouse is Razer, and Razer config is bound to use mouse 4 as "Back" button, and mouse 5 (side-front button) bound as "Forward" button (as used in browsers).

When playing MC 1.4.2, 1.4.4, 1.4.5 (and previous public version 1.3.x), or apparently any "old launcher" version up to and including 1.5.2, in windowed mode (enlarged to fit screen) and pressing mouse 4 "Back" or mouse 5 "Forward", Minecraft opens menu as if pressing ESC.

Since support was added for use of these buttons in game, one would assume it is fixed?

Ok, thanks for the feedback.

Seems to be fixed in the latest development snapshot I just tried (snapshot 13w25a), played via the new launcher.

EDIT: Tried updating the issue after confirming this still affects the "old launcher" version 1.5.2, but couldn't add that to the affected versions list due to error claiming such a version tag doesn't exist.

Can no longer reproduce in one of the newer snapshots 13w2x (LWJGL 2.9.0). Anyone else ?

Still a problem in the most current release.

I've read on other pages that the issue is with LWJGL and how the release of 2.8.5 saw the removal of support for more than three mouse buttons. The suggestion was to find a copy of version 2.8.4 and replace some files to get support back.

Confirmed with a microsoft mouse 4500.

There is no menu opened but the game releases the mouse when pressing mouse button 4 or 5. To regain control in the game, a left click has to be issued.

Still remains a concern to me in 1.4.5. Copious thanks for reminding me to update this - hopefully I'll learn to keep my issues up-to-date from now on.

But, yes. Please fix this. It's nasty because I like socializing with distant friends via the miracle of the microphone, and push-to-talk is a requirement to me.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

I would love to see this get fixed. It is so much more efficient to activate teamspeak using mouse button 4. I now have to use a strange key with my left pinky
