 Description

Only white wool blocks can be recolored. I expect any wool block should be re-dyeble regardless of color because it's possible to re-dye sheep and leather armor of any color.

Changes in design (WAI -> Fixed) is never done on Mojira; it was not changed as result of a bug fix, and at the time of resolving, this was the intended design.

If it isn't already there, put a report on the feedback site with "Bedrock Parity" in the title.

Comment by DrAv0011 [ 29/Apr/20 ]

Even that this is considered WAI, should not be, in Bedrock Version is possible to dye Wool and Beds from any color to any other one.

Comment by Tristan Abshire [ 09/Feb/13 ]

It's not consistent with the behavior of the related items as well!
Why is this being so hard to get changed? I know that the solution is simple, and it'd make people's Minecraft-lives easier.
There is literally no reason for it to exist as is currently stands (Because it sounds like a bug right now)!

Comment by Kumasasa [ 09/Feb/13 ]

... not consistent with the behavior intended by the developers ...

If Grum said it is intended, then it's not a bug per definitionem.

Comment by Tristan Abshire [ 09/Feb/13 ]

And this doesn't sound like a bug to you?
Sheep and wolf collars can be dyed however many times and into whatever color.
Beds and paintings can use any color wool for their recipe.
But dyeing wool blocks can only use white wool for it's recipe.

Bugs can also exist in people's logic too.

Comment by Kumasasa [ 09/Feb/13 ]

Bug: A mistake in a software project. Any observed reproducible behavior not consistent with the behavior intended by the developers may be classified as a bug.

Comment by Tristan Abshire [ 09/Feb/13 ]

It's contradictory to the rest of the dyeing mechanics though!
Wolf collars and sheep themselves can be dyed orange, then blue, then white, then red, or whatever color dye you have on hand.
But as soon as you get it in a block form, only white wool can be dyed?

Look, I know that you guys can check for any data value in a recipe. That's how all the wood recipes still work, and why the bed recipe can use any color wool. So that's obviously not a reason why this is the way it is.
I can't think of any reason to have it be this way other than to annoy players who want white wool back without going and looking for more sheep and increasing their leftover wool more.

Kumasasa, I stand by the fact that this IS in fact a bug.

Comment by [Mojang] Grum (Erik Broes) [ 09/Feb/13 ]

Gives you a reason to keep sheep around!

This site is for bug reports only. For feature suggestions/changes please use the MineCraft Forums: Suggestions.

Comment by Tristan Abshire [ 09/Feb/13 ]

Try explaining it to a new Minecraft player though.
"You can dye sheep, a wolf's collar, and your leather armor whatever color you want.
But out of all wool blocks, only white wool blocks can be dyed white."

I can guarantee that most new players would look at you and say "What?", "Why?", or "That's dumb."

Comment by [Mojang] Grum (Erik Broes) [ 09/Feb/13 ]

Yet I said it was not a bug. This in fact makes it not a bug!

Comment by Tristan Abshire [ 09/Feb/13 ]

There really shouldn't be anything to reconsider.
At all.
It looks like a bug, and it sounds like a bug. I don't understand why they haven't done anything about this yet.

Intentional. We'll reconsider this.

fuj1n, you think it's a feature request to make it so that you can use bone meal to dye more wools than white wool?
Because think about it: you can only dye white wool white right now.

Comment by Eric [ 06/Nov/12 ]

It would probably be done like leather armor currently is, and thanks for editing the capitalization of each word out.

Comment by fuj1n (Arthur Uzulin) [ 05/Nov/12 ]

The recolor to any color idea is not the wisest as the game currently does not have nearly enough data spaces to use such advanced coloring techniques.

Also, I find this post more like a feature request instead of a bug report.

Comment by Brandon Bourgeois [ 05/Nov/12 ]

Oh, I know what you mean! You used to be able to do this, but now it is so annoying that you can't!

Comment by Alex Poulsen [ 25/Oct/12 ]

Or even better, you should be able to dye it any color. Like minecraft would just take the white wool and use that and a custom color like how the biome colors work. and mixing the dyes could give you an in between color, like dark red from red and black. Or a very light blue from 3 bone meals and one lapis.

Comment by Tomas Watchorn [ 24/Oct/12 ]

yeah you could use a cauldron to make the wool white again, then die it another colour, exactly the same as leather armour.

Comment by Blake Beavers [ 24/Oct/12 ]

Possibly make it to where you have to recolor it white before you can change it to a different color?

It would be cool to kind of implement the leather armor dying system into wool blocks!

Comment by [Mojang] Grum (Erik Broes) [ 24/Oct/12 ]

Intentional. We'll reconsider this.
