duplicates MC-8824 FPS Drop due to Smooth Lighting Resolved
Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed
Game Mode: Survival

 Description

While chunks are being updated anywhere, the game says my fps is around 60 when the look movement and player movement are extremely choppy stuttering. When VSync is turned on it decreases the fps to 30 and the stuttering is still there. My settings are; Graphics-Fancy, Render Distance-Far, Smooth Lighting-Maximum, Performance-Max FPS, 3D-off, View Bobbing-on, GUI Scale-Normal, Advanced OpenGL-OFF, Brightness-Moody,Clouds-ON, Particles-ALL, Server Textures-ON, Fullscreen-OFF, Use VSync-both. Maximized Window on 1920 x 1080 monitor. Generated new world for testing. As the chunk loading subsides you can stand still and look around smoothly.

The FPS is high again in 1.5.1.

The FPS has been fixed in 1.5.1 so it is steady and high but maybe if the FPS were to ever drop again for any reason it would drop and look even worse than that FPS should look. However for the time being this bug is fixed.

Turning off Smooth Lighting did fix this but the chunks were loading considerably faster up to 30 updates a second faster, This issue is likely related to the smooth lighting considering all the re-writes on the engine they have been doing. I am very interested to know if many others are experiencing really choppy gameplay with a higher fps to see if it is an issue with my setup.

Try turning off Smooth Lighting and come back with the result. If Smooth Lighting is off and it helps you, it is possible this is related to MC-8824.
