Villagers despawn just as mobs do when you get far enough from them. |

I've had an entire village despawn it's villagers in 1.12.2... |

Nikos, you're 100% sure there was no thunderstorm? Also, there seems to be still the problem that sometimes mobs can suffocate due to glitching into walls and sometimes they also glitch through fences and similar.. So theoretically they could have either suffocated or escaped and then either died by falling into lava, a hole, or attacked by Zombies during night or so. But it'd be a bit of a bigger coincidence if it would have been all 3 at the same time, but then again I don't know your setup there and other surrounding stuff (space they were in + environment & Co.), so it could be so many things, even entity cramming, if they happened to be together with many other mobs. But we should definitely keep an eye on this bug Take care, have a nice weekend |

Meri Diana Great consideration. Though, there wasn't a thunder storm during the time between their presence and disappearance |

Niknokinater Have the 3 villagers been sufficiently protected from potential lightning struck, as it may have turned them into witches (which would despawn without any loot either). Iirc it were 7 blocks reach of a lightning to be able to turn villagers into witches (basically if you got a roof over where the villagers were, it would have to be extended 7 out to all sites). |

Certainly this must still be an issue. In my world (server), each of the players left and returned to the chunks containing the villagers (two were cured, one was birthed). It took some time to notice, but they were not there (they were not killed by players). There isn't a single block of light level 7 or below, as well as on the wall towering over the little villager section. All three villagers were not there and there weren't any drops (I gave them a loot table, but with the amount of time that passed, the drops would have likely despawned). I say confirmed for 1.12.1 |

Indeed, same with Villagers turned into Zombies.. |

|
Mojang really should make it so that villagers struck by lightning are turned into PERSISTENT witches. |
| Comment by Meri Diana [ 17/Oct/14 ] |
|
@Rickard: Might have been due to https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-72868 which is fixed now.. }=) |

|
I saw one of Ethos villagers suffocate and die, for some reason it was stuck in the floor when he came to his villager village in his cave. |

|
I've heard not only from Docm and Etho that they lost Villagers, but it's unsure as of why/how. It could be lightning hitting them, turning them into witches and then despawn.. Well I guess I'll just watch this issue here, and in case we have this issue again, I'll apply for having this issue re-opened again };] Regards |
| Comment by Rickard Åberg [ 16/Oct/14 ] |
|
I don't think they despawn any more, I think they get killed or sometimes fall through blocks and suffrocates. |

I see it isn't reproducable, but it would be good if we could re-open this issue here. If it isn't happening due to mobs sinking into the ground (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-72868 fixed by today), then we just have not found out yet what causes it. I know a few people are trying to reproduce it or to find the problem inside the code as this is a really bothersome bug. So, if possible, please re-open this issue, so we have a thread collecting the infor we could need to track down the issue. Kinds regards, |

This has clearly has not been resolved but it seems skins are more important then npc |
| Comment by [Mod] Pokechu22 [ 17/Dec/13 ] |
No, but all people who post on it receive notifications when someone comments, so comments can be seen. If we find some way to reproduce, then it will get updated. What would be useful in trying to reproduce is a mod that logs any time a entity takes damage, and the cause of said damage. |
| Comment by Alex Chong [ 17/Dec/13 ] |
|
@mohd I thought so too, but I checked the source code and the zombie is not cured, it is killed and replaced with a new entity. The information transferred is only the position and rotation. Also, this occurs with natural villages too, not just cured ones. Also, do bug reports get rechecked periodically after being closed? |

I've tested things some more, villagers in small holding cells with iron doors works for me, just make sure its bright enough so mobs don't spawn there. But it's more or less impossible to keep a normal village running tho'., villagers die more quckly now since zombies seem more agressive and sometimes villagers don't stay inside but keep running around. |
| Comment by Jamie Hart [ 14/Dec/13 ] |
|
I put villagers in holding cells inside the village itself so they wouldn't wander around for trading purposes, this is the second time, all of them have disappeared. first time i thought they were too far outside the village boundaries, so i destroyed those holding cells and put them all inside the village boundaries. I went to the end, got killed. and when i got back to the village, all the holding cells were empty again. it took me awhile to get all those villagers in those cells, and have them as suitable trading partners, now they are gone. this needs to be fixed. |

I think what is going on is that the progression between zombie to villager is not completely done right. where as by they act look and sound like an npc but still have some command code from the time they where an zombie which still lingers. which would explain why they disappear and dont reproduce because that is what the zombie villager would do. thankfully my npc has not diaper (yet), has been graded by walls and golem and on normal survival and yet it still wont reproduce. even with doors a plenty. It is also must mention that this has never happen to me during the last time i played minecraft which was 6 months ago (give or take). only in this patch has this ever happen |

This issue seems to be around still. (I'm on single player survival though, not multiplayer) |

Can't get the villagers to stay anymore either. They despawn. I had spawned villagers in my town, even had two iron golems and the villagers even increased on their own after a while. Now they're all gone, even if I add new ones they disappear. No modded server, just standard 1.6.2. Maybe consider reopen this? |
| Comment by Alex Chong [ 21/Aug/13 ] |
|
Happened to me four or five times in a survival world, 1.6.2. Kept spawning new ones, but they keep on vanishing. Gave up after a while. |

Villagers glitched out on my world, but they didn't despawn |

As it stands, we're unable to reproduce this issue of villagers despawning. I've also looked into the code and am unable to see any problems with it. If this is still an issue, please let the mods know so they can re-open it and we'll reinvestigate when we can. If, however, the issue is that villagers are still disappearing due to reasons that are NOT related to despawning, please create a new ticket to track that specific issue. |

This is a random occourence, but I am pretty sure it still happens. I havetn seen it, but I don't have any vilagers. Anyone getting it? |
| Comment by Tails [ 11/Aug/13 ] |
|
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.6.2 / Launcher version 1.2.1 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. |

I don't know if this changes things but when I had this problem it came from a zombie villager that originally spawned from a spawner in a dungeon. Basically I ventured far and wide for a village with no luck, so I went searching for zombie villagers to cure. I finally found one from a zombie spawner, led him all the way back up to my base on the surface, and trapped him in a small walled off area that he could not escape from and cured him (I stayed for the 3 minutes until he became a villager.) Then I left to go build an underground railroad from my newly built village spawner to my base, and it was quite far away so I may have left the chunk. When I finished the railroad and came back for the villager, he had despawned. |

On a bukket server I was playing on, I have encountered chickens making suffocation noises and dying. Same problem, I think, except chickens have drops. |

I think I have this bug. In the same server, in the normal world, there is a village near spawn ; suddenly, all the villagers have disappear. I found some at 50-100 blocs of the village, but I didn't find the others villagers. However, I think that they went away from the village because some players have removed the doors. But in the superflat world, there were doors. I hope this issue will be fixed, because we'll do 2 huge villager farm :/ |

Unless someone has really seen them despawning, I don't think that is precisely the case: I have been taking close care of a village for two or three months now. First i trapped all villagers by making many 1-deep holes in the ground, placing each in one, and placing a dirt block above their heads so they wouldn't jump out. They couldn't move so they only turned around. No villagers disappeared while they were like this. After some time, I freed some for mating, then made some ‘houses’ and trapped three villagers inside of each. The insides were 5x5x5, well lit and free of danger. After travelling several times I realized some of these had ‘disappeared’. Zombie spawning was not a possibility because, had a Zombie spawned in a room, it would have killed all three villagers, but usually only one or two disappeared. However, the ones in the other traps (the holes in the ground where they couldn't move) were still there. Since they were free to move around, I think my villagers were crowding in the same space (next to a wall), then when the game loaded, they were relocated to occupied blocks, where they died of suffocation. I've seen it happen with animals. I'm playing 1.5.2 with Optifine 1.5.2 HD_U_D2 (I saw animals dying of suffocation this way before modding Minecraft, though), SSP. Please fix this issue, I don't want to have all my villagers stuck in holes so they don't disappear. Thank you. |

My wife and I just had almost a whole "larger" village despawn on us. 1.5.1 Server. SMP |

It happened to me while I was trading with the villager. When I closed the trading screen the villager had disappeared. |

I recently turned a zombie villager into a zombie. I had only 1 villager, and right away the villager was behaving strangely. Villagers tend to move around a lot but this villager hardly walked around. It also didn't seem to want to interact with doors. It honestly seemed like it was operating on pig AI. The area I kept him was safe from monsters and enclosed. No where the wander, nothing to kill him, but I came to check on him a couple minutes later and he was gone. The door I left him next to was intact, no evidence of a zombie attack. It was as if he despawned. I'm using 1.5.1 |

I can support this theory as my villagers were in holding cells above sea level. They may have clipped through to under the tower's base and drowned, but that was updates ago and I can no longer access That place because it was on an old server map. |

Peffse~ This is very very possibly what the problem was for me... because more than once I've had all my villagers end up on the bottom floor of their "appartment" building after having put them up in the upper levels... And I know full well there is a cave below... but it's a long way down. |

Just wanted to add that I'm having problems with villagers vanishing too. It just so happened one of the children was turned to a zombie just prior to vanishing. I kept hearing his moan, so I searched around and found him underground. I found several others that were randomly strewn about underground too, with no obvious ways for them to have gotten there. |

I had this problem too. I was out fetching supplies and I came back and my village was empty. No trace of villagers or zombies or anything. I'm playing version 1.4.7 |

Yep, this is still happening in 13w03a. You guys who commented and are still having this problem need to vote on it so it gets seen. |

This happened to me after updating Minecraft from 1.4.5 to 1.4.6. |
| Comment by Jennifer DuBois [ 26/Nov/12 ] |

I too am having this problem. I am in peaceful mode so there is no chance that zombies are killing my villagers, each villager is in their own house, the house is locked with fences and fence gates. I have not gone particularly far away and the most recent loss (of two librarians) I had not left the area since they last bred. I have not as of yet noticed a pattern but the only thing I have noticed is as of yet no villager that I have traded with has vanished. This was not a problem until very recently, in 1.4.5 |

I don't know why the disappear, but my walled-in golem-guarded village looses villagers from time to time. Most of them are still there when i leave and come back, but sometimes i come back and one is gone. I wonder if they are getting stuck in a wall and suffocating or something. |
| Comment by Jean-François Barras [ 04/Nov/12 ] |
|
I can confirm that a village lost all its villagers rapidly, and that it seems like they are despawning due to distance from the player. What I expected to happen was...: What actually happened was...: |
| Comment by Cameron Stone [ 02/Nov/12 ] |
|
Well if you walk far enough away, they do vanish, but don't despawn, like they just go out of your vision. This happens with any mob |
| Comment by Matthew Sumner [ 31/Oct/12 ] |
|
My villagers are despawning too even though I am near them. I think they're despawning when their chunks get loaded and unloaded. They're encased in cells in an Iron golem tower so as to not get infected. This is causing major problems in my farm. |
| Comment by phillips1012 [ 28/Oct/12 ] |
|
Are you sure they're not just getting eaten by zombies? |
| Comment by sciguyryan [ 28/Oct/12 ] |

Villagers do not despawn at all. No matter how far away you go. Can you explain why you think this is the case? |
