 Description

Today I noticed that animals like cows sometimes are not responding anymore and just stay there idle without animations (moving head) when luring them away with wheat. They run a few blocks and then they suddenly stop. After a few seconds they start to move again. This happend multiple times when trying to bring a few cows back to my house.

This is ridiculous. There are so many bug reports about this issue, yet it has not been fixed. we are not talking about switching items or moving out of radius. The issue is they simply seem to lose interest when you are right in front of them holding the food. This report is the earliest one I could find (obviously it's from the days of 1.4) and this issue has been continuing from this version all the way up through 1.9 snapshot 15w47c. Please fix this issue as soon as possible as it is an issue which has been going on for all too long. Thank you, Surrender_Gaming

strange, I did not change the held item or run away too far. I was only walking a few blocks, standing and waiting for the mobs, walking a few blocks.. and so on but they got "stuck".

so this is no bug? Aw, this cooldown time is really annoying! If you just accidentally walk a LITTLE bit too far, change tools for a moment or there are too many animals and they are pushing each other out of range, you need to wait 15 seconds... I don't know who added this cooldown, but it is annoying and should be removed or be at least some shorter

People should read the Minecraft wiki to find this out!

If mobs lose track of you because of great distance between each other, or if you change from wheat to another item, there is a "cooldown" of about 15 seconds before an animal will follow you again.

confirm this to the other anmals (pigs and chicken). i think this is intended, like alper yetis says.

Confirmed on smp, also spotted the reason:

If you walk fast and leave certain distance from them, the cow will stop following and from that moment on will TOTALLY ignore you even if you come back. Trying to switch items from/to wheat won't work.

It also happens with sheep.

Solution until a fix is to move slowly and never let them get too far behind. If they do, as mentioned, it takes a long time until they "notice" you again.

I think that the cow do not have a animation for some time is a bug, but that the cow do not follow you with wheed in the hand is not true. I tried it today and it works fine. Make sure you do not change the wheed in your hand while walking ... i think it is intended that the cow do not follow you direcly after you changed again to wheed => if you change from wheed to an other item and then again to wheed you say to Minecraft "i do not want that the animals follow me, but i want to make something else with the wheed"

Confirmed on smp
