 Description

Why is it that Villagers only plant Wheat?

That is, if I manually plant a village's gardens with everything under the sun the Villagers will harvest it all up but then only plant Wheat to replace it.  So, after sufficient some time goes by the only thing growing in any garden within a Village is Wheat.

The Villagers need to plant whatever is available in the game - or - at the very least they should be able to plant whatever they are harvesting once the Village is created.

but they do plant other things, villagers plant what they have in inventory, he would plant wheat if you keep letting him get wheat, I believe they only plant one type of crop in a determined time, after he runs out of seeds he would plant other things the has in inventory

After reviewing the ticket you suggested (as covering what I am reporting) I find this is NOT the case at all.

My issues has nothing to do with 'villagers not harvesting' ... it has to do with them eventually harvesting everything in a village (i.e. wheat, beetroots, potatoes, and carrots) but only planting wheat in their place.

Again, and as stated in the original post, if they harvest carrots they should be able to plant carrots ... basically if they harvest something they should be able to plant the same thing (either randomly or based solely on what they have harvested).

As to whether this is the original design, a bug of some kind, or a feature suggestion ... only a code review will answer that question.

I can easily believe this is just the way it was originally designed and, after all of the other grow-able food updates & other additions, simply an oversight.

Instructions:

  1. Start a new world with villagers on.
  2. Find a village that has an assortment of plant-able foods growing in it's gardens.
  3. Monitor the villagers harvesting and planting over time (over several in game days).
  4. After sufficient time has passed you will find that all plant-able foods in all gardens have been replaced with wheat.

Hi William,

Couple points, the first is that, the bug tracker is run by volunteers, not Mojang, so we have no way to look into the code.

However, I misread your report and the issue itself is likely valid, however I believe its covered by an existing issue (MCPE-80084). If you don't believe 80084 covers your specific circumstances you're welcome to create a new report over in the correct project. This project is for the Bedrock Dedicated Server software only.

Please note though the information you've provided isn't enough for a valid bug report. Please head over to http://help.mojang.com/customer/portal/articles/801354-writing-helpful-bug-reports-for-minecraft before logging a new report and make sure to include steps to reproduce the issue no matter how simple you think it should be to understand. It helps to make sure future testing of the issue is uniform.

As a programmer I would ask if you have looked into the code to determine if this is a BUG or a FEATURE?

Perhaps the original code is supposed to have Villagers 'plant different things' but is currently not working because of other past or recent changes.  As you have most likely NOT looked at any code or researched this at all you cannot justify your statement that what I've reported is Invalid based on the fact that it does not crash the game or present error messages.

That being said, why is it that your staff specifically directed me to post this issue herein (see attached?  Perhaps another flaw in your processes & procedures?

The whole point of this report is to get this issue corrected.  There are many other complicated systems in MC ... there is no reason why this should remain lacking ... and IMHO it need to be corrected.

@WIlliam.C.DiGiacomo They are just only NPC,not players. Many things they don't understand to do.

I am talking about naturally spawned villages, with beds, and the villagers do sleep in them at night.

The issue posted is that the villagers gather everything in the gardens but then only plant Wheat.

If they harvest Wheat, Beetroots, Potatoes, or Carrots then they should be able to plant Wheat, Beetroots, Potatoes, or Carrots.  That is, whatever they harvest they should also be able to plant.

Why is it that after harvesting everything else they only plant Wheat?

I will give you an advice:
When the time is night, you should put some beds on the floors.Look at the villagers, whether some of them sleeps in bed.
