Windows Server 2019, Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04 (hyper-v VM)

Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed

 Description

Clients are able to connect using the server IP without issues on Linux and Windows version of BDS software. Clients are able to connect with a domain name on Linux version of BDS software but not Windows version( there are no issues seeing the server MOTD or population in the server browser tab. The connect attempts to start but always hangs on Generating World , Locating server.) I have the same issue while running the Windows version of BDS through WINE under Linux. I can even have the Windows and Linux version running simultaneously on the same Linux box, and while the Linux version allows connections from clients using the domain name, the Windows version will not.

Thanks for letting us know.

One component you could investigate is your IPv6 port forwarding. A lot of mobile carriers here in Australia are making the switch to IPv6 which can interfere with the connection if you don't have AAAA records set up and the IPv6 port forwarded.

I'm sorry to have wasted your time but I seem to have solved the issue. I was using my phone to test the server access from outside of my home network. Well it must be a weird configuration with the cell networks or something on my phone. Other clients with wired home connections are able to connect with the domain just fine.

I still am very confused as to why the Linux server software didn't have the issue.

@IonicEcko, are you running this public server on Windows or Linux? I have no issues with the Linux version of the software allowing connection via domain names.

Hi Jesse,

I run a public server where everyone connects via DNS name so this isn't as simple as DNS connections not working. Its also highly unlikely for a bug like that to be possible. ultimately DNS is just a pointer.

Its likely something else is impacting your setup.
