Nintendo Switch -> Win10 MC Bedrock Ded. Server

 Description

Hi
I have a local W10 Mincraft Bedrock ded server (latest version) and in the same network a nintendo switch bedrock (wlan). The only way to connect is (assume) to have a friend on this server and I can connect via this friend. But connect via "server" is not possible, because I am not able to add the specific IP via Nintendo Switch (minecraft server).

I am able to connect via another win10 minecraft version.
It is planned to connect to these kind of server via nintendo switch IP server add ? I bought the minecraft nintendo switch version with the assumption that this is possible. I am kind of tense
Looking forward to an answer or further questions / exchange.
Best,
Uwe

Thx 4 considering this ticket. looking forward to an answer :-*

On the client (Switch) I do net have any other worlds saved and the server (win10) is on the latest version, like the client.

I also see every connection thought the dns mapper mod0. I will try it with re-installing the client software in order to be sure everything is fine.

router / wlan works as always.

I will share feedback I a few.

Thanks as always for your support :-*

Do you have any world's worlds save on the device?

I'd try re installing the game, if that doesn't fix it try deleting the save data for the game you have to go to the storage settings then save date section and delete Minecraft save data.

Or you could try rebooting the server incase it's just bugging out also check to make sure the server is the latest version.

Make sure your router or modem or modem/router had the latest firmware just incase it's a bug in that preventing a connection.

I think I might have had the same issue once.

Also what router or modem are you using by any chance if you don't mind me asking?

Hi @Edward Dolezal

since some time I am not able to connect to my local ded server.

I get following message on my switch within minecraft server tab (translate into eng):

You need to have a Microsoft-Account and a Nintendo Switch-Account, in order to be able to play cross plattform. Connect to both to be able to connect to the server.

Did you encounter the same?

First I thought its because nintendo online membership. Then thought a new version was released. Both did not help.

Do you have more information or a solution for that?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers from germany

Uwe

You are very much welcome, I'm happy to hear, I'm still myself not happy there is not native method to join servers that are hosted with the dedicated tool as if they were realms.

I'm lucky here in Australia we have been shelter form it for the most part.

Hi @Edward

Sorry for the delayed answer. I am currently in parental leave and the corona situation here in germany with a small child and old parents / parents in law is kind of annoying.

BUT ... I did it .. with your information and the information within the last release of BedrockConnect by PugMatt is am now able to pay with the nintendo switch on a win10 minecraft bedrock server. Very nice!

Thank you for your help! I am really happy!

Cheers!

Uwe.

Hi Uwe

i fee your pain with realms im one of the people who desperately wants it to be able to native join since i host a server myself,

here is the link:

Software:

https://github.com/Pugmatt/BedrockConnect

Tutorial Video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zalT_oR1nPM

Basically set the primary dns on switch to his the one in the link, and the seconday to google 8.8.8.8 or open dns or cloudflare 1.1.1.1, when when you go to featured servers it will show a 0 out of 10 join one of them then it should bring up a menu to allow for adding a custom server similar to the one when you join from your phone, add the details then bam your in, if you need anymore help, just add me discord VexiraViolet#5747.

Hi @Edward

Thx. kind of understandable with realms but at the end it is not the promis they (doesnt matter if MS oder Mojang) did.

Let ask you one last thing: I did set up my minecraft bedrock server with win10, but I am not sure how to add bedrock connect to the server files / how to install bedrock connect in order to ensure cross connect with swtich. Can you point me to these information or share these information? many thanks for your effort!

Cheers,

Uwe.

hi uwe

bedrock connect lets you join servers, from switch to servers, ive used it with my switch.

the official response i got was its up to console manufacturers to implement native joining, but my suspicions is that they wanted to push realms first instead of implementing native join as if the dedicated server was a realm.

I also want native joining to server from switch.

Hi @edward Dolezal

Thanks for answering!

But I am not that sure if bedrock connect / nxminens works for me.

I am able to connect from minecraft bedrock client (win10) to minecraft bedrock ded server (win10) .

I am NOT able to connect from minecraft bedrock client (nintendo switch) to  minecraft bedrock ded server (win10).

I would like to have a an official answer who will fix this compatible problem and when. If not, this is a reason to delete the clients / server I bought in the past and to enforce a refund, because this limitation is crucial.

thx

HI Uwe,

Per the link I attached, it specifically mentions that Bedrock Dedicated Server isn't available for the Switch. Crossplay is enabled for multiplayer and is available across every platform so in the "cross play" regard that is already possible.

According to a number of tweets by Mojang staff, the ability to connect to custom servers has to be specifically removed by Mojang before the platform holders will certify updates. As such the blockers in this instance are Sony, Nintendo and indeed Microsoft.

If you wish to suggest that the feature be added you're welcome to head to https://feedback.minecraft.net and suggest it but I would assume it will likely be closed there too as it is outside of Mojangs control (apparently - based off their tweets only).

As far as Edwards workaround goes, I can't confirm it as a workaround, its a third party piece of software that, if not checked yourself could open vulnerabilities on your devices. Its best that you learn about and check them yourself

Hi @IonicEcko

I am not entirely sure if closed as "works As Intended" is correct because the main goal  with minecraft bedrock is the ability to play cross plattform.

To create a minecraft bedrock ded. server on w10 and to play on it with another device implies this goal.

So please reopen is this, confirm the workaround as mentioned by Edward and share information when this fail behavior (not able to login to w10 with nintendo switch) will be fixed.

Many thanks!

Uwe.

Hey Uwe just use bedrock connect or nxminens it should allow you to join , i use the dns redirect in pi hole to connect to my server.

Hi Uwe,

Nintendo Switch cannot currently connect to BDS instances.

Please see https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360035131651-Dedicated-Servers-for-Minecraft-on-Bedrock- for more information.
