[BDS-10052] 1.16.100.4 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS silently loses players Created: 22/Nov/20  Updated: 25/Nov/21  Resolved: 25/Nov/21

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

 Description

I'm not even sure exactly what's going wrong, but it appears that BDS 1.16.100.4 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with all the latest updates keeps losing the connections to any clients.  The BDS console doesn't show any disconnection, and the client appears to keep working, but you can't access the inventory and no changes made to the world are permanent.  Restarting BDS and reconnecting fixes it...for a little while.  Then it recurs.

I don't know what further info I can give since there are no logs I can find.

BDS has been up and running since my previous comment.  I don't know what makes the Docker container different from the native OS but it solves the problem.

I'm running it in a Docker container now and it seems to be working.  Not sure why.

My server never has more than three players on it, none of whom use any kind of non-standard add-ons.  But we are all in creative mode.

Chris - I will put myself in creative mode to admin the server...  I'm starting to wonder if that's part of the problem.     I don't think the server crashes when I'm not around.   I don't use an inventory editor, or anything like that....

Hmm...  time for testing.   I wish Mojang would give us some sort of status updates!

I'm guessing there's an issue in the inventory code.  The latest version of BDS keeps inventory itself rather than trusting the client to do it.  This is to prevent cheating.  But it's definitely broken.

We've had to close a world down because of how badly BDS (and client platforms) are now running.   This is on Windows 10 with a Ryzen 3600.

Exactly!  I was running 1.16.40.02 and before that 1.16.1.02 with no issues at all.  My server is on Digital Ocean.

I am running the Ubuntu 1,16,100 BDS as well and agree the Server is very unstable. It will crash often and sometimes will not even connect. I am running on a QNAP NAS and thought that was issue but apparently not. Previous build of 1.16.40 did not have this issue at all.

I have this EXACT same problem running server 2019.

I thought it could have been a problem with the VSS writer, but it's not.  It's definitely some sort of BDS bug.   Never seen anything like it, and have been running BDS for around a year.

Incidentally, BDS developers, I have a six-year-old here who is very, very sad.
