If you walk next to a hopper, and try to jump. you get caught under the edge of the hopper and cannot jump. 

To duplicate, walk next to any side of a hopper and try to jump. 

It keeps you from jumping your normal height, and makes things like navigating a super smelter difficult while trying to jump ontop of hoppers.
