Issues with portal on realms (iOS)

Since the update for 1.19, all the Nether portals on our realms has been killing us, especially on slower Internet connections. This has significantly impacted our game experience negatively.

This has been an ongoing issue since we created the realm in 1.19. For such a major issue, we would have expected Mojang to find and resolve this at least a year ago. When the bug first began in 1.19, it would only happen on the very first time a player entered a new nether portal. Now it seems that it happens all the time, and the only thing that stops you from dying is if your internet is fast enough to load the Nether before you ‘suffocate’ and die.

Our Android and Windows 10 players suffer from the same issue as well, so the platform is irrelevant. We once lost hours of XP grinding because of this very issue.

To recreate the issue, simply go through a nether portal. The first time a player (any and all, meaning this will happen to every player on their first time entering, and not just one) enters a portal, the portal is sure to kill them. You will hear suffocating noises, then a death message showing that you have ‘suffocated in a wall’.

The next time you enter this same portal, you will continue to take suffocating damage, but if you’re lucky enough and your internet is reliable, you’ll take at least 2-3 hearts of damage at worst. You will also see breathing bubbles on your hotbar, the same one that shows up when you’re suffocating on a real wall. It seems that the portal itself is being treated like a block, as a wall, and it’s causing this unintended damage to players entering through them.

Additionally, right after death, you will respawn with a glitched animation of the portal animation (as if you’re still going through the portal) and last for a few seconds, and you won’t be able to move, jump, or open your inventory while this is happening. 

We’re not completely sure if this bug is on the side of the realms server itself, or if it is a bug specific to our Realm only, so we are willing to explain more if required. We hope that this issue can be resolved as soon as possible, as we are planning to return with the game for this Christmas season.
