Due to the recently freezing problem I started playing on realms.

I noticed that in my gold farm - the zombie piglin big portal, in the overworld, with trident killer - it only gives xp to a second player when the owner is online.

Is this normal?

The experience is with the owner in nintendo switch and the second player (the one recorded) in PC.

In the video attached you can see the second player in the same place, and the xp stop appearing and then reappearing when the realms owner gets out and the gets online again.

It seems that everything else in the farm is not afected.
