I was at my tree farm when I was attacked by a pillager group. I had some diamond stuff and armor. when I re spawned only my armor was at the spot where I died with the stuff in my hot bar nearby, but no diamonds. They seemed to have just vanished in the ten seconds it took for me to respawn and get back to where I died.
