Can't understand how it doest work, but when I was making nether portal with lava buckets I faced this bug and consequently ruined the portal. How you can see in the video, camera becomes like 0,5 block taller and blocks placement becomes broken, block aiming is 0,5 lower than it should be (I guess it is actually absolutely right, but camera bug makes it look broken).
