Actual behaviour - In Minecraft the player is allowed to walk forwards diagonally. At the same time it's not possible to go backwards diagonally.
Expected behaviour - From a modern game, I would expect consistent behaviour and convenient controls. If going forwards diagonally is possible, the player should as well be able to move backwards in the same manner.
User benefit - It makes absolutely no sense that this very basic feature is limited to moving forwards only. For the same reason the developers have decided to allow going forwards diagonally, players should be enabled have this feature the other direction as well. It's the common standard and it would be much more convenient. Nowadays, it is beyond debate that players can go into more than 4 directions. Why should there only be afluent transition within 180° and only one single direction for other half of the circle?
Conclusion - It's embarrasing and inconvenient. Underdeveloped, outdated and behind the times.
