The instructions to allow a child's account to add friends etc has an issue that can be corrected one of two ways.

Worst fix: Fix the instructions at https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360042649591 to state you need to log out of the account in Minecraft and then back in for the changes to take effect. This is also true for the Xbox App on iOS.

Better fix: Have the app pickup the changes made on the website to access levels etc referenced in the help article.

Things I had tried: setting everything up the way the article said. Quitting Minecraft and relaunching multiple times. Rebooting the iOS device. Changing the settings over and over. Changing the settings to allow everything on the Childs account.

I tried from the Xbox app to add a known friends screen name. Kept getting the warning I did not have permissions to add a friend and go to aka.ms/....

Logging out of the Xbox app account and back in fixed it.

Did the same in Minecraft app and that fixed it too.

Hope that will allow for some Happier customer experience and save others a lot of time.

I saw some people have suffered with this issue for years. It took me a couple hours of on and off work to figure it out. Crazy 😜 waste of time , and I think I nailed the solutions.
