Some of the material recipes introduced in the chemistry update make insufficient sense, mainly with regard to oxidation states. The problematic ones are:
- Iron Ore, currently Fe64Si12O24. This implies that Iron is in an elemental state, which is not how iron is found in real life ores. A good new formula based on Fe3O4 would be Fe30O40 + Si10O20 = Fe30Si10O60.
- Coal Ore, currently C50H6O43N. This is too much oxygen to make it a good fuel (compare with charcoal). The composition of ash-free (other mineral) coal would approximate C54H42O3N. Weighing in SiO2 may be a good idea if you decide to add coal blocks later.
- Clay and Terracotta, currently Si77Al17Fe3MgCaO. This is way too little oxygen (-2) for the formulat to work, assuming Si is in its usual +4 state, Al in +3, Fe in +2, Mg in +2, and Ca in +2.
- Soul Sand, currently Si37O3X60. Again, too little oxygen to make sense despite the use of X (???).
- Netherrack, currently Si64O18Hg15X3. This is too little oxygen for the Si part to become SiO2 in a sillicate rock. Recommended new formula is Si22Hg15O60X3, with mercury as MgO and silicon as SiO2.
- Dirt, similar problem as clay with not enough oxygen. The current amount of calcium, magnesium, and iron is a bit overboard too (one unit is enough). Potassium can be added.
- Cobblestone and friends, a less offensive case of oxygen deprivation.
Y'all did a good effing job with the update. Keep up the good and fun work. (PS: when is salt coming to survival?)
