So I don't know how to explain this, but my minecraft world killed me and my friends and we respawned at the world spawn. Then, we came back to where our island was (the island was pretty close to our world spawn)  But, there were holes, big massive holes going all the way down to the void all over our island.  A lot of our houses were destroyed and a lot of the things we created to.
