This occurs when mining any blocks in caves as well as outside during the night.

When I mine any block, the space where the block used to be is very dark - do dark I can't see what kind of blocks are behind the one I just mined.

I can restore to the proper lighting by placing and then removing a torch.

I'm using an LG G2 with KitKat on T-Mobile.
