Item held in hand and hand flickering in nether portal

      I had made a portal in the nether after finding a suitable area to blast mine. Made a portal to over world, and while in the portal my hand and item held kept flickering in and out. Maybe this is a new portal mechanic but it made me feel like my game crashed. Happened going back in too.
