TL;DL: Rapid FPS drop from 60 to <10 and freezes, with or without RTX. Full screen artifact
Guess: Draw distance blows up to infinity, culling (if any) fails
Reproduce step:
- Create world "Temples and Totems RTX"
- At entrance of Water Temple, look right into forest
- Observe rapid FPS drop from 60 to <10 and basically freezes, but game does not crash
- When fps is really low, random artifacts stretch from horizon towards camera and covers viewport/screen. Everything flicker, disappear or show corrupted texture
- Switch to desktop and back, observe scene is redrawn and FPS recovers to 60
- Unless walk away or turn camera, issue cycle (step 3-4) restarts immediately
Sample locations:
- Entrance of water temple (Screenshot(4).png)
- Top of water temple (Look towards forest through window)
- Corridor beneath water temple (Look into wall)
Notes:
- Restarting game does not help
- Issue persists with or without RTX. Sometimes RTX on prevents the issue
- CPU, RAM and GPU usage remain reasonable, but GPU memory maxes out according to task manager
- Recently installed Windows with all updates. Latest drivers. Fresh install of Minecraft RTX beta today, newly created official map. Stock texture. No mod
- In game OSD reports about 6 fps, but perceived fps is barely 1
